It's not any old classic car show either, it's the Lancaster NEC one in Brum, the biggest in the country. It will of course be in a car park about 5 light years away from the hall though. Next year though...
Oh - tax disc arrived today, thanks Paul.
Apart from oiling it up I fitted new bosch wiper blades today, huge improvement.
Tasks for Sunday (absent it being miserable) is clean it and fit new speakers and one of my Becker radios. Only Keepers get the Beckers.

Good luck with that car! I've never heard of Beckers speakers, are they particularly good?

I haven't come across Becker speakers, but Becker made some of the most accomplished radios - when all else had lost the signal you can still pick it up on a Becker. Now part of Harmon Kardon, they stopped making standalone radios a few years back, so their existing radios are cherished. I have three for my sins!captainhaddock wrote:Good luck with that car! Becker radios are great.
For the mirror plastics you should sand first with wet&dry then polish up as normal. They will then be back to their former glory.

Just reading through this thread Charles....thanks to Neil for posting this up...was going to suggest this myself. In the first instance load it on thick and let it soak for a few hours....just keep putting it on for a few days and your plastics will restore to like newEddie nuff wrote:Vince put me onto Meguiars Ultimate Protectant Dash & Trim Restorer. I swear by it now, it brings all the black plastic and rubber back to black with ease.

Looking forward to the finished results....

What a shame Charles that my xm is off the road...I wanted to make it down to the NEC this year but finances are killing play time at the moment.
We could have met up and parked up together....
Im liking the idea of Anglesey XM Restorations.....
Paul...they could be onto something there....you could do Xantias also as they become more pricey as time goes by

Vince - shame as it would have doubled the number of XM's I saw there - mine was the solitary one! Nothing on the CCC stand (which had fewer cars than the BX club!).

Re: Charles's 2.1 SD Manual (formerly Citroenxm's)
Given a bit of a clean and it is noticeably better

Close up though the paint is very flat and there are green splashes all over the car that didn't come off in the wash.

Initially I thought they were lichen type dots but they only come off when abraded so I assume they are splashes of fence type paint. Getting them off is immensely slow work, and hard on my fingers (which haven't really got much muscle tone since developing carpel tunnel) so after an hour I managed to clear one wing (Brasso proving very effective). The paint is now a lot better when polished where the dots have been removed, but this is going to be slow! I don't really want to polish over the dots in situ in case it just adds another layer of protection.
