That explains! Clutches can smell the same as brakes
Always bleed brakes and do all of them in the right sequence:)
She'll be fine soon, do not worry. It's good the rust didn't get to the pipes behind the subframe!

Paul, just catching up.. Sorry to see she failed but at least not badly and she's good in all her important little places..
Next time it should be just a mere formality...
The clutch isn't too bad a job is it?

Noo, I did Vince's clutch IN THE BLOODY RAIN with a load of tarpoleings as cover.... never again.
But the good thing, its all in situ job, like the Xantia, move the box across and rest it on the subframe. However, Im compenplating getting the whole lot out, and dooing the head gasket as a matter of course. Shes done then... So when someone does decide they would like to buy Ill knows shes perfect to go..

Lift the whole lot out if you are going to do the head. Change the CV boots as well when you have the drive shafts out. Thats what I would do, it will make everything so much easier, fitting the timing belt kit, and changing the thermostat as well.

The binding caliper is likely to be the parking brake self adjuster, same as my Cobalt car. I popped the pistons out and after a bit of cleaning they freed off. A flush and change of LHM helped significantly as well.
