Just back from another round trip France. With trailer.
Good cars those XM's!
Didn't miss a beat or loose or use any important fluids :)

Was complimented by Irish customs on the car, first time ever anybody seems to notice this car.
Only saw 1 (ONE) other XM in France, quite sad really.

That is surprising in their home country... Did you see many Xantias?

Jim, there are still quite some xantia's around yes, mostly series 1. Bit late answer but never late than never.

But talking about xantia's I do have a query.

I have noticed a bit of a drip coming out of the pressure regulator of the TD. It isn't new but slowly becoming worse. Not unknown, a seal giving up somewhere I believe.
My question is, if those regulators are all the same. I have one somewhere of a Xantia and also one of a TCT but to be honest I haven't dug them up yet.
I've replaced them before on my previous cars but this time I was wondering if it's possible to re seal them?

Thanks for the answer on the Xantias :)

As far as I know Jaap, there's only three different sorts of pressure regulators: early ones with a coarse thread and rubber seal on the pipe union from the pump, a later one with a fine thread and a flare and the third type with an FDV takeoff for the power steering.

Given you are swapping like for like union thread and FDV-wise they are all interchangeable but be aware that some have a differently angled return line spigot on the plastic housing - this can be swapped over but really afterwards the calibration of the thing needs checking.

The O ring in the top of the regulator can fail and this can be replaced; Dean did a guide on how to do this somewhere on here. Failure of this O ring is very common on ES9 V6s for some reason - heat maybe.

I don't know now, why I made such a fuss about changing that steering rack gaiter on the passenger side.
It's partly my fault for being not clever enough to see, that the dealer had given me the wrong gaiters. So much for the dealer.........and me for I should have checked but I didn't because I trusted their computer system would give me the proper ones. I strongly suspect their system is not properly adapted for RHD cars on this. Never mind.
I'd been blinded and should have actually been looking rather than thinking.
All went as planned but I used a universal gaiter and it will be OK. If not, I bought 2 for 10 euro's and it's only been a good hour work.
For the first time I worked on a proper car lift which I thoroughly enjoyed doing. Having said that, I could have done it with my small ramps in retrospect.
And what is even more great, I may use the car lift whenever it's free for free from now on! :) Happy days!
