Maybe too late to add a comment that she's seriously beautiful, I wonder how a V6 drives in comparison with other xm's! Good to see you're looking after it and wish you much luck with it!

Many thanks for posting the further photos Jim and the new V6 really does look tidy! I quite agree with you about not missing a sunroof and as I said before with my German 24v there is plenty of light coming in elsewhere. It was very impressive to see how the Prestige polished up and black certainly does look good after a shine!! I would have thought with the spec, inclusion of LPG and a fairly low mileage, your old car would have made a bit more than £995, even with a few bodywork issues. With regards, Matthew T.

Thanks Jaap :D Best way to describe it is that they're seriously quick in a laid-back and refined sort of a way...

They're a Jekyll and Hyde sort of car. You can potter around quite happily by just tickling the accelerator or you can press the Sport button for the gearbox and press the accelerator with a bit of determination and all merry hell will break loose.

This one is a particularly lively example of the breed. Subjectively more lively than my Xantia V6 for reasons I cannot quite work out!

Also, they feel incredibly nimble and much more than such a big car should feel.

Come to a rally over here and have a drive ;) You will enjoy it!

It was also good to hear that the Prestige went to a good home Franklin and she looked really great in the photos - I will have to get you polishing some of my mine!! Hopefully we might see the car and owner at a future rally. According to my XM brochures the S1 24v was never available in Meteor Grey, although Silex was an option! With regards, Matthew T.

I barely recognised her in the photos Matthew  There's no doubt Franklin can polish and prepare a car like no other, he really does do an excellent job of it...

There's definitely an art to it because I can't however hard I try...

Black does come up lovely and must be a very satisfying colour to work on.

I suspect it was machine polished with a rotary polisher.

That is most kind chaps, thank you. :D I must say though, that I am not in the same league as a certain Vince!

I must admit that I don't use a rotary polisher and it's all done by hand! I have heard good things about them though however I seem to get a nice finish manually. I have been tempted to purchase such a machine however the Scotsman inside me thinks that I can buy a whole host of polishes/waxes for the price of a machine polisher! :D If I need a car "mopping" then I know a few very good tradesmen that do a cracking job.

It's certainly a case of getting into the swing of it. Just today I spend around 6 hours on another XM (no...not project X!) ;) - time certainly does fly however it was a mucky example! I have to have the Radio on though to make the work flow better.

My camera does do a good job of making things look rather nice too...

I'm amazed you got that level of finish with hand polishing.

I think that the pictures might make it appear slightly more glossy than reality however with the right products results can be very awarding.

One of the reasons that black is probably my favourite for cleaning/detailing... 8-)

I might get round to giving the Cobalt one a wash, sometime and see if it looks better.
