Quite shocking Jim. I remember Halon extinguishers were banned in the EU because of environmental damage they would cause when used (oson layer etc....
As if a big fire wouldn't cause any harmful elements I always wondered - I heard they work very very well on fires but never tried :)
But what you are writing is very strange that this stuff becomes so harmful for humans when used on something burning. I read it is still being used or am I mistaken.

I guess I wouldn't mind drilling into teeth now, if it pays that well.

Good dentists as rare as XM's .....I must tell him!
He's the only dentist that gave away 4 perfect old doors, that was well worth that filling! :) He's like me, likes to do everything himself. Even put his own implant in his own jaw, clever guy! And just finished building his own practise in an old derelict house.

You were missed Vince and perhaps in retrospect I should have missed parts of it too
Thanks Jim I appreciate that right now ;) ....I too am suffering with health conditions at the moment, however more mental than physical...either type however isn't good...so I hope you pick back up again soon :)

Its surprising me how much Im stuggling with having the xm off the road....the xm was always something that I could take out for a drive and be away from my work mind for a while and just enjoy the drive. Being off the road has put paid to that though :( Its not the same going out in the Qashqai as its my work car.

I missed the cxm, but one show I am aiming for though is the NEC classic car show....I know its expensive and will make me miss my own classic car (in my eyes) even more, but at the moment its something to look forward to and that's enough ;)

Hey Vince! You're welcome to drive my work XM's Vince - even though they're nowhere nearly are as great as Jim's V6, no doubt.

I suppose you need a break of it all. So, to remember my old mum's advice: tobt nooit't komt altijd anders. Freely translated: never worry cause things always turn out differently (as you expect) It's helped her a lot cause she is the greatest worry-er of all people :) I always thought this was the most stupid advice but actually, she's right, you know:)

Driving a Quashqai apparently doesn't help either ! :)

Seems we're all suffering one way or the other, lately. (sorry for my bad English tonight)

Gosh, a long time since I last updated this

CXM has been and gone in that time and unfortunately it started something of a downward spiral for me and I'm only just starting to crawl out of. The reason why I've not been active on here.

The time from CXM until now has been very busy on the family front involving daughters going to Uni and funerals in Somerset.

I'm totally out of touch on what's been going on here and I'm not even going to try to catch up on what's been happening. I'm sure I'll get a gist of what's needed to be known soon enough... If there is anything you might think I should know about then PM me...

I have seen the thread over on the FCF concerning XAN71A (the pate now on my V6 Xantia) and should point out that I bought the plate direct from the seller of Goldie on the strict understanding that I would only have the plate if the eventual purchaser of Goldie didn't want it - as was the case. Had a purchaser came forward who wanted car and plate together then I'd have withdrawn my offer.

Car-wise I've done practically nothing recently. I even had to send Robyn's 207 into the local garage to have a CV boot replaced. Truth is I've barely been in the workshop recently.

I did a little at the weekend with great difficulty. I checked over the Activa for it's MOT today and clearly did a lousy job because it failed on a wishbone bush. Not the 'P' bush but the opposite one.

It's a ******* job on an Activa but luckily a specialist is visiting on the weekend who will do the job for me. No way am I up to a wishbone bush just yet...

The rear wiper failed on the XM over the weekend and I thought it would be an easy fix. I thought it might be the intermittent wipe relay and assumed it was in the tailgate as on a Xantia. No it's not. I eventuality found it was located in the passenger-side fuse box and basically functionally inaccessible. I even removed the glove box to try and get at it but no, that did not help at all. I can see a quarter of the relay but that's it. Oddly though in all the poking about the rear wiper suddenly started working and has been ever since... Typical XM...

So how do you get at the relays above the fuse box? I can't see how for the life of me...

Anyway, I'm back. I must take it easy still and slowly for the foreseeable so don't expect me to be my old self just yet...

I will resume my strip of the EPIC pump as soon as I can but it may be a few days yet...

Hi Jim,

I've been wondering where you have been. Sorry to hear you have been hit with another attack. But at least it sounds like your recovering.
Nice to see you about again.

Sorry to hear about your ups and downs, Jim.
So how do you get at the relays above the fuse box? I can't see how for the life of me...
There was a guy who went by the name of Dave or David on XM-L who was trying to get access to the relay panel to try fixing a problem with the aircon. He managed to get to the single screw way above by standing on his head. BTW, there is a photo of the panel in the shop manual. It kind of hinges at the top and is fixed with a single screw.

And then there was someone, I think it was on this forum but can't recollect the details now, who replaced ALL relays on the XM. When asked if he did the ones under the dash too he answered affirmatively. So, of course, it can be done but will be a real pain. Anyway, your wiper seems to be working again, which gives you some respite :D
