Oh I do have time unfortunately, waiting on the cat to arrive (due today) but also got a fair bit going on familywise at the moment that prohibits me from getting stuck into the last couple of patches and reassembly. Well, I could do but turning up at court covered in dirt and stinking of hot metal and sweat wouldn't look great

still, if I get a moment before we go and sort out that whole business once and for all then I may reassemble the headlamps and refit the nosecone as that won't take too long and isn't a really mucky job.

D'man, as I said it was a pure guess so I actually have no idea at all how it is. The extent of my knowledge on the matter is that orange 47's will charge an AC system and the gas within worked very nicely as a refrigerant. what their exact contents are and what they smell like was not something I looked at in great detail at the time (suffice to say, if that system HAD developed a leak I'd have known about it in one of three ways! )

This is what I have stuck to the slam panel on mine. So not quite what I was thinking.

Your car is running RS24, a drop in replacement for R12, R134a, 125 and Butane based i think from my readings lately.

That sticker is great (didnt hang around there did you) but R12 is the gas for the older cars like ours.

 where there's a market..... And a spare half an hour.... :D

I read up on this RS24 too and it seems it's a cleaner way of using the same system without any modification I believe. As you say stop gap between R12 and R134a.

I might be getting one for my slam panel (with the right numbers of course) before the other sticker is completely rubbed away.
So let me know.

Anyone else whilst I'm at it?

I would think the original sticker had gas type and charge weights, I've found the charge and oil weights for the later R134a system but can't find them for the R12 one.

Citroen XM 93-2000 2.0i/16v/2.0tct/2.1(2.2)TD (D)
Refrigerant type-R134a 725g
Lubricant type-Pag ISO 46

Same for 94-2000 2.5td except refrigerant charge weight is 825g

Still looking for believable R12 charge weights but most are guides and advise that the under bonnet label or manufacturers specs are adhered to so its hard to know how accurate they are.

Can't you just add enough to give the correct system pressure?

Dean,

The 'new' RS24 (R426A) does seem to get some good write-ups. It's also US EPA approved for retrofitting to R12 systems.

Try this for a listing of both R12 (and oil) and R134 (and oil) for all the XM models...
http://www.autototal.ro/dmdocuments/Cat ... 0Hella.pdf
Behr-Hella are pretty trustworthy.

The recharge quantity does need to got right, and sounds as if it varies significantly, depending on which refrigerant is used. I don't think guesswork is on.
Oil quantity seems to be the same for both R12 and R134a, presumably determined by the pump and system sizes.

Hope helpful.

C.
