Well, after a longer than expected pause I have now sorted the N/S sill. Turned out to be worse than the O/S. The gap behind the splash panel was absolutely full of mud, leaves and twigs. Needless to say the wing has suffered. I will sort that later in the year.
Both sides now welded up, treated with seam sealer, undersealed and the cavities injected with Bilt Hamner's finest wax.
The less welcome news was that I found that Wreckit & Bodgeit had got to the front brakes. The wear cable had been cut and the wrong sized pads fitted! Replacing the cable resulted in the predictable set of warning messages and dashboard lights.
I am a little unsure about what is the right size pads. It definately has the smaller, thinner discs but I wasn't expecting two different sizes of pads! New set of pads and discs ordered for next week.
Looks like the caliper/handbrake mechanism is sticky resulting in the faster pad wear.
Provided the parts are right I am aimming to get to the NEC on Saturday for the Restoration Show.

Rob..

Has your brake calipers got the STRAIGHT cast hand brake lever or is it a curved type?

If its the straight type lever i think you need the pads with the "Extra Nipples" on the pads for early cars only.

Not sure about the handbrake levers. Car not with me so will need to have a peek in a couple of days and by then the discs and pads will have arrived :/

Frustrating.

The RP shows 12 April 1990 if that is any guide?

That makes it a very early car, so smaller discs and pads with outer pips on.

ORGA 5228 was change over.
The early type 276mm discs start life at 22 mm thick.
Later are 283mm and start life at 26mm thick.
Caliper frames use the same mounting points so you can upgrade an older car but best do both sides.
Most of the early components have been sold off as NOS.
Mine came as a job lot at £5 a pair of discs and £2 a set of pads.
Passed all of them on a few rallies ago.

I have ordered small discs and small pads. looks like I will be OK. Wish mine had cost £7!

Hopefully fitting will go well next week.

Thanks John.

Well new pads and discs fitted. The dashboard warning is still on! I am now starting to have some sympathy with the guy who cut the wire!

Any ideas as to why the "brake maintenance' and 'Worn brake pads' messages are coming up along with the warning light?

While all the pads were well worn none were down to the wear indicators so there should not have been a circuit and there certainly shouldn't be one now!

That said the car drove home a treat tonight. Next couple of days will be the 110 mile slog to and from work and then up to the NEC on Saturday.

Well all good today on the run to Abingdon and back. Had to stop at the first garage to wash all the dust and grime off that she has been sat in over the last couple of weeks. Just couldn't bear to drive her out in broad daylight looking absolutely filthy.
The warning lights are still on :(
Got her home and gave her another wash. Stood back and admired how good she looks even with three different shades of Alpine White!!!!
