It's had a reprieve thanks to John.russ92xmsed wrote:Does this mean it's staying?
Well, that was an interesting morning.
When I purchased the car I was advised not to let it drop below 1/4 of a tank as it splutters and cuts out. I listen to this advice whilst I was away on holiday, but have been playing a little bit of roulette more recently. I was down to an 8th of a tank this morning on my way to work and it started misfiring and then it conked out. In a display of irony the fuel light came on as the car came to a halt

After a short hike and a costly jerry can I continued on my way to work

Don't you just love XMsCaptain Slow wrote:In a display of irony the fuel light came on as the car came to a halt![]()

I trust all Citroen fuel gauges less than the government in power and always keep all of them at least half-full because of that... Even the XM which only needs petrol for starting and cold running.
Ditto the gas tank... Having four little LEDs to tell me how much is in there is not good

Either the pickup pipe has a hole in it or the sender float arm is bent.Captain Slow wrote:

Re: Captain Slow's Series One XM
Success! The final piece of the XM suspension jigsaw was finally put into place at CXM.
After changing the front spheres and fitting a refurbished suspension ECU, it was time to connect the car to a Lexia and cleared the faults stored on the new ECU. I had an inkling that there was a fault stored on the new ECU as I had read that the sports suspension light was supposed to light up for a few seconds upon start up of the car, yet mine didn't. This means that the car defaults to emergency suspension at all times.

The car was duly connected to the Lexia at CXM today and the faults stored on the ECU were cleared. It was them time to start the car...and success! The sports suspension light came on for several seconds and then went off, just as it is supposed to.
So there we have it. My suspension is now fixed, and the ride on the way home from CXM was excellent all thanks to Jim, John and a lexia!

Re: Captain Slow's Series One XM
Well done! You must be delighted. It was great to meet you and see the car over the weekend. It is a great example.
I know all too well about fuel gauges. Mine was playing up again over the weekend. Kept showing less than I had put in. Typical! Still thing I have a sticky sender unit.
Interesting what you said about the Sport mode light flashing on to tell you all is okay. I must pay more attention to mine!
On other things... let me know any time when you want to buy the Traction and SM poster.
Enjoy the renewed ride.
All the best

Re: Captain Slow's Series One XM
Well done.
Very pleased it is finally sorted.
You identifying and recording on here why the light was missing is good work.
For me working out with Jim the most likely reason for our Lexia reading failure was a real bonus.
Just got to find a Mk1 to test the theory on.

Couldn't have managed without your help. Also whilst at CXM I nabbed a replacement front chrome trim which has made the front end look much better.xmexclusive wrote:Well done.

Now my next mission is to get some round wheels as mine are buckled. I will look into refurbishing them, but another set might be a better way forward. Any thoughts?
