That will be a fault oil pressure sender switch which is just above the oil filter between the oil cooler pipes.. nice and easy to get to that one.captainhaddock wrote:It is not coming on with the ignition turned on!So I suspect an oily or loose or whatever connection to the pressure switch but I don't want to foul Vince's topic! I find those level sensors aren't accurate but mine is still working.

I would Russ if i was giving it a colour change...Im not sure that the platinum colour will show off its true finish...besides it might look terrible with me painting itruss92xmsed wrote:Vince you're going to end up with the best painted XM ever! Then it will be the shiniest XM ever Vince.
You have the eye for detail, so i am sure it will be immaculate when done.
Just think though, with Deans and then yours, we all have no hope!!

Re: Vince's xm - IT LIVES! WITH A FRESH MOT
Well Russ for the time being enjoy knowing that currently the laquer on mine looks like it was spread onto the panels with a butter knife. I was just looking at it outside in the dark with my torch before....its terrible
I'll certainly be able to better its current finish.ever a rattle can finish would be better

Ok, so dirty hands in tow ive just had the xm up on stands and had a good look around all the cables and hoses ontop and underneath Touch wood every thing seems in very good shape

This i had to do as recently i have become super paranoid about snapping clutch cables and splitting hoses etc. I think i need to relax and spend the next 4 weeks looking forward to using the car again

My new genuine citroen oil level sensor arrived today along with the fuel injection pump coolant hose. I located the oil level sensor and armed with a big spanner attempted to change it. No such luck! Being laid under the car armed with a spanner i couldnt get the purchase i needed to crack the nut on the sensor so for today anyway my gauge ceases to work
What i did notice was the ends of the loom wires had insulation tape round them
This either means its the sensor, or its the wiring to the plug. Either way when its back on the road ill bob it into one of my customer garages and change it whilst its up on the ramp
The hose im keeping as a spare.
I did notice a few weeps underneath mostly of oil so i wouldnt mind getting the underside steam cleaned so i can better trace their origins.. She is an old bus with alot of miles under her belt...i can forgive her the odd weep i think

Re: Vince's xm - IT LIVES! WITH A FRESH MOT
Good show. Never get paranoid with an XM, is pointless. Just stay cool.
As for that hose: swap it if you can, you have it so why wouldn't you. I looked at my perished hose right before it perished whilst changing my 4 inlet manifold grommets and leak off pipes. It looked fine to me as well, no cracks etc. but I didn't take it off so you can only see that much.
My best guess is that your wiring to the level sensor is at fault, so better check that first. I dont' really trust that sensor anyways.
Just drive it and keep your spheres in good order, which will save more money on maintenance than it costs.
And as said, clutch cables can get you stranded but are easily remade. Just check for worn threads if you like at the pedal. If the pedal goes smoothly, I would not worry about that at all. Just drive it. Like I do all the time.

Re: Vince's xm - IT LIVES! WITH A FRESH MOT
I am afraid I agree with Vince.
RHD XM clutch cables are an issue that needs resolving.
The availability of new stock is I suspect virtually nil.
Vince's checks will confirm this one way or another.
I accept that cables can be made up but how quickly when the car is off the road.
Anyway the cable seldom fails it is the plastic fulcrum block that usually splits.
Then there is a complicated length self adjuster that is easily damaged on installation.
I also think that no NOS stash of cables will be found so we may need to prepare an alternative.
Fortunately one of our former members made a few stainless steel fulcrum blocks ready as spares.
I hope to borrow one of these so my CNC man can store the design details and give me a copy.
We also need to find a cable to record its design dimensions.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the offer of hardware.
It may come to that but I hope photos and carefully measured dimensions may do the trick.
