I am sure you are right about the gearbox changes Dean and some refinements were probably due - especially given the additional stresses imposed by the PRV V6! Those gaskets look like new compared to the ones in my 110K engine that were toast!! Regards, Matthew T.

They were very good, it was a shame to take the heads off really but the valves do need looking at.
I have a pair of new gaskets winging their way to me now for £25 which is a bargain, so long as they are not made of paper or cheese.

Gosh that is cheap Dean and the budget non-original ones I have seen are about the same money each! As mentioned earlier I bought a job of genuine gaskets for very little, except they are all for one side! Regards, Matthew T.

Just another interesting thing (for me) i was looking at tonight, from memory the 2.0i head has 5 cam bearings and 8 followers with a total of 13 oil feeds(exits from the main head oil gallery) to the valve gear above the head gasket in total.

The V6 has 4 cam bearings and obviously only 6 valves but each head has a fairly heft 29 oil gallery exits per head, and some of them are unbelievably tiny, thats 58 lubrication points in the heads alone, its no wonder the oil pump is so damn big!

One needs to ensure the oil is as clean as a whistle to keepp them from blocking.

Yes Will, more importantly when it goes back together it needs to do so somewhere very, very clean indeed.

Cam and crank seals, intake and exhaust seals, valve stem seals and crank sensor are all on the way.
Trying to find new tappet seals, i can buy the hydraulic tappets themselves but at £15 each X 12............, the search continues. likewise with distributer and rotor arm, those are expensive parts and not required until the engine is in really.

I must admit that I did not change any of these on my 110K engine Dean and it seems none the worse for it! On your 60K engine I am not sure the effort and expense is justified, but it is obviously your decision. With regards, Matthew T.

Nothing like eliminating the risk of everything though. I would be doing the same for shear peace of mind.
But I agree, it would be surprising on a 60k engine if they did need replacing.
