Ive an EVEN less complex one too!!

A Base D model... lets see, Manual rear windows, Manual front seats, manual mirrors (I think) just electric front windows.. No left hand display - although they NEVER fail on an S1 car anyway...

But, no, I do NOT do base models. The XM is a "Luxary" car, and should have toys! Which Im a fan of. :)

 that is very true. Otherwise, and I say this in hushed tones....it's just a pointy BX!

I found the thread from a couple of years ago of the really basic, French only model XM. No centre console, clock instead of rev counter. And everything almost taken out of it. Incredible. No idea they even bothered!

I think for me I would be happy with an SD, but the top range models, although potentially more trouble are the ones. :D

To be honest Russ, theres LITTLE more between an SD and SED.. The SD has ALL the electrics as the SED... but SED is Leather.. It has Air Con .. BUT the SD was available with Alloys and Air Con as an option... Most SD's had ABS, this one is the first Ive seen without..

Its Easy to make an SED fron an SD.. Oh, only later S1.5 SED gained the electric arm rest. Early ones were just the cubby compartment..

Yeah, that's why I could live with an SD! Much the same as an SED but a little bit simpler. I suppose some would argue more comfy with the velour.
It is odd how people spec some cars up, my SED for example has no trip computer, something you would have thought would be added, if your buying top of the range. Unless I am totally wrong and diesels didn't have them.... But everything otherwise, is correct and present, well relatively, I am minus an interior sensor and hacked hydractive wires!!!

The lack of trip computer is ONLY because of the COMPLETELY mechanical Bosch fuel system, in which a trip computer can not work out fuel input, or useage etc...

Lucas Epic was semi electronic, hence the added Trip computer, also the HDi is electronic with fuel injection input already built into the ECU...

I'm glad of that Paul as otherwise I'd never have been offered mine :)

Paul, if and when your interested, I'd like to come over and turn this XM round for you body wise. I can machine it all and bring the plastics back if your interested? It should then come up like new again. If your interested we can discuss potentially some sort of trade in work?

P.s. If those wheel trims are in good nick, I would be interested in them when your ready to let them go ;) I know your not a fan of them

Well, this evening I got a DRY EVENING!! Yaay...

Got the car backed up onto the ramps and had a look under neath... while backing up, the exhaust fell away completely, so it has no exhaust from the front box backwards...

Anyway, first thing to get the rear reacting to lever movements... The Rod has a 16mm nut on the end that the "bars" act against to control the height corrector.. it was a litle stiff... anyway, I slackend off the nut and put some lube on there... ALL working again..

Image

There it is below the height corrector under the anti roll bar..

Got the car to the correct height, rear end SOLID!

Quick look in the shed, found some 2008 Hydractive spheres... I knew they were from the tiny hole in the centre... So off with the old to find they had both ruptured the membranes...

Image

5 mins later... Wow, now the car has full movement.. Though the height corrector is still a bit slow to react... its liekly to be from sitting for too long. Anyway.. rear end movement restored.

Checked the rear pipe work by feel more then anything on top of the subframe, all felt nice and smooth so currently pleased with that.. The Near side strut feed pipe was the worst corroded.. quite bladly, but not leak threatening... Will do for now with some under seal painted on it.

Took some more chassis pictures before taking the car off the ramps...

Im pleased to report that on this one Ive NO subframe mount welding to do....

Took the car off te ramps and put the front up... only to find the engine UNDER TRAY COVER still fitted!!!!!

Left it for now, had a look at drop links and ball joints and pleased to see theres no split gaiters or joints and all look good.

Disks however, need replacment.. rather rusty, and Ive got caliper issues, they are biting on, but the pads are rather low, ALL expected! So far though, SO GOOD... :D :D :D :D

WELL PLEASED!

Total added cost so far: £0 ;)
