NO, the parts were warmed, painted in the shed and brought in to dry in the bathroom, it was pretty full by the time all the parts were in there, the smell of fresh paint is lingering a little so i did catch some flack for it even if i wasnt technically cought.

I have a question for those in the know with V6 PRV's, how may different Crank shaft pulleys are you aware of, the one on the engine im rebuilding has cracked right through and is beyond saving, i was going to use the one from the spare engine but its very different indeed but i wont know if its offset and drive groove diameters and widths are different until i take it off the car, is this aknown change? i cant find any info on it.
This is the different pulley

I have a PDF explaining the PRV design features including why it was designed as a 90 degree V6 and it makes for very interesting reading i will try and upload, at the moment the forum is telling me the file im trying to upload is empty which is odd.

One bit of good news is that after 7 hours of attacking YOG with a volt meter i can confirm that the wiring on the 2.0i and V6 is identical and the V6 engine will drop in and just plug into the Prestiges harness and run which is a relief, the hydraulic piping on the car is also exactly the same beteen the 2.0 and 3.0 and only 2 short bits of pipe need to be changed, so installing the V6 will be very straight forward.

Same rads, same gearbox ratios, driveshafts, hubs, brakes, vehicle wiring loom, A/C pump, air box and possibly alternator, very surprising if im honest, they were set up to have whichever petrol engine just lifted in on the production line so far as i see.

Just need to suss out why the crank pulley changed, i need to make sure why the design changed so i can get the correct one for the ancillaries on my engine.

Dean bottom FRONT engine mount on the prv NOT at the rear as on XU engines... no idea if its bolted or if there is a provision to bolt the front bottom link onto your exsisting installed subframe or if it will need changing..

The same harness is due to the fact both cars are 1992/3 spec.. if you did what i did with diesels and tried a 1991 into a 1994 harness then that was different between the two ages of cars

Hi Dean

Not sure if this is of interest.

XM 1 No.29 31 Jan 1991 - Engine mods - XM 1991 model year.

6 Cyl engines - Crankcase pinion driving the rear cyl head:
Adoption of the ZPJ4 type driving sprocket on all V6 engines (improved metallurgical properties).
A groove on one side of the sprocket identifies the new part (96 059 211).

No information give on interchangability for this mod.
All the other mods on the note have such listing where parts are not interchangable.

Will continue looking and edit anything of possible interest.

John

The engine mount is welded on and very simply so as its just a bit of box section welded onto the front rail.

If i use the later loom it has the better plug but as is the plugs are all the same and pinned the same so i just need to unplug an engine and plug in the other, this suprised me because most manufacturers have a habbit of pointlessly changing stuff for unknown (to me) reasons.

All ive got to do is make a new cat and engine mount and the rest is just swapping stuff.

Thanks for that John.

That's good news with the wiring compatibility. Someone saw sense there!

Trouble is now Dean you've let the cat out the bag... if it's that easy to bung a V6 into a 2.0 shell, then everyone will want to do it... like flies in soup!

......Sort of, its that easy to put a V6 into a late model 8v with Auto box and A/C, it would not be so easy with a manual or 16v.

Also i have to say this is a project purely for doing a project, it will more than likely ruin the value of the vehicle and make a bullet proof reasonably economical and simple to work on car a complete pig of a vehicle (in my opinion) to live with.

Also there is a shortage of engines, 3.0 PRV's are sought after for all earlier PRV equiped vehicles and any that have not been scrapped are horded, then of course if you get an engine and gearbox the real trouble will start with the V6 specific ancillary components you need like ECU's and rad hoses........
