I'm loving my '93 S1 XM S1 but being a later car fitted with the 2 spoke steering wheel I was missing Citroen's trademark single spoke wheel that I so enjoyed about my old CX.
I know it's not factory correct but thanks to a tip off from cxprestigeauto (a.k.a Rob D), I acquired an early single spoke XM wheel and I think it looks great and as you can see from the clock it took me a whole 3mins to swap them over 8-)

Much better! and you get to see more of the controls.
I got rid the two-spoke 'sports' wheel on our '92 BX as well, and replaced it with the BX 'big pad' single spoke one, which was always one of the features of the car's interior.
:)

Really cannot fathom out why citroen went to the twin spoke as it completely went against why the single spoke was fitted from the off. It obscures all the. Dash buttons around the steering colum.

Agree, Paul. Even the addition of an airbag surely didn't need the scrapping of an iconic Citroen item. It could have been done so much better.

Air bag technology I think as the bag units are still a size.. I guess now they could make them to prehaps fit a bx size wheel boss..

The two spoke wheel came into use at the first "facelift", black exterior plastics, lighter less plush interior materials, headlining, carpets, seats, hurricane grey dash, deletion of rotary lights switch.

Afaik, that wheel is shared with the Zx and Xantia, so may be a styling refresh idea, but may also be a cost reduction one, too.

Citroen were moving into the "acceptable" corporate world of Psa...oddball styling had to be replaced with socially acceptable.

The xantia 2 spoke wheel non Air bag on xantias are different as they used the radio controls that were to be used on xm air bag steering wheels.. A larger centre boss cover however they use the same spline size so are interchangeable the xantia wheel is also a smaller diameter..

Mk1 Xantia steering wheels.

Neither are identical, but both have a family resemblance.

They aren't.. The xantia wheel diamiter is smaller.. The boss is different.. They may look vaugley simmilar as far as the two spokes go. But are quite different.

A xantia will look a bit daft with the huge xm wheel on it as there be little leg room to pass between wheel base and seat base..
