Seems steep for discs and pads.
What was the fix for parking brake release?

Clips came off the rear apparently

First time I tried it, yep, wouldn’t release again

Not bothering with it for now, I’ll sort it in the coming weeks

well a lot has changed since my last post

an awful lot

sorted the parking brake, they hadn't even touched it so i wedged the "clip" back into the metal guide and applied a lot of super glue and it seems to work fine now!

so, time for a story

around 3 weeks ago i spent a fair amount of time sorting all the aftermarket wiring, especially behind the n/s headlight, wiring i presumed was for the aftermarket HIDs the car had.......you can see where this is going

removed everything that looked dodgy

wired a proper feed into the fuel stop solenoid and stood back, happy and satisfied it was looking a lot better

also bear in mind, my other car, a C5 was in the bodyshop getting some paint done, and time for work came around so i hopped in the XM.....

nothing

no starter action at all, great

in the end i wired a button directly to the starter motor and that worked well, albeit intermittent at times

anyway, today, i decided to take a proper look at it

transpired a cable i'd cut was the feed to one of the relays feeding the starter solenoid, joining that back together got it working again, which i'm very happy about!

also, since my last post i've lost central locking, it just keeps bouncing so i've had to disconnect the control unit

got a replacememnt Hydractive ECU from the ever helpful paul at the Chevrons rally, upon fitting that it works great and it's now in soft mode and riding beautifully!

the fuel pump is unfortunately leaking rather badly, and due to having no luck finding someone to replace the seals i've decided to buy a seal kit and do it myself, only going to do the main seal as that's the one i suspect is leaking and i don't really have the skills even for that but i'm willing to give it a go

also as of today, this cars identity has changed from CXM back to EVN with some lovely period correct font plates which just look absolutely fantastic!

this car will likely be for sale in around 4-6 months time

simply due to me likely becoming a driving instructor and not really having the space for 3 cars

unfortunately, it's obvious one to sell

so enjoying her while i can, she really is splendid and makes me very happy

That will be a front door lock unit either not locking, or the switch inside the lock unit isn't reporting it being locked.
Watch the interior buttons, if one fails to move the motor is probably U/s, if it moves it may be sticking so holding the unit not quite locked.
The switches are generally very reliable as they are heavy duty contacts inside the lock unit. It coud be a connection issue eiter at the lock unit, or the door harness
You can buy the motors to install.

Alternatively, fit an external locking motor unit to pull/push the knob linkage.

Yours being Hydractive 2 will be more likely to suffer Ecu problems. H1 Ecu's are very robust and rarely give issues.
You shoud still fit additional diodes into the wiring loom, as that may be what was causing the original Ecu to fail to operate. It may be the new Ecu is more tollerant...for now.

I'm surprised you can't find a deiesel specialist to service a Bosch VE pump, it used to be their bread and butter work.

i only have one door lock button in place on a rear door, the fronts are missing theirs

the issues seem to have started since i accidentally slammed the door rather hard in windy conditions, but i had noted previously it not enjoying being unlocked with the fob.....i also noted the passenger key being hard to turn in the lock, which makes me wonder if that's the defective unit?

i have the controller unplugged at the minute so the fuse can be re inserted as it shares a fuse with the hydractive ECU and it was in hard mode without the fuse in place

yes i have some diodes to fit, which i admit i haven't got round to yet

i did have some water coming from the interior light unit, could it be that water has got into the roof reciever causing locking issues?

No it wont be water in the roof reciver.. have you sat in the car and pressed down the drivers lock rod... and see what happens.. then repeat the same on passenger side that usely indicates which side is giving issues.

good thinking

so, connect the unit back up, then push either side down and see what happens?

Yes. I think I advise this early on before you started dismantling.
