Question. How do you get a loose brake disc when the wheels are bolted THROUGH the disc and therefore hold tight the wheel and disc onto the hub..

On the Xm:
You car dives due to the Hydractive not working, which is why it has Cx spheres fitted. Make the Hydractive system work, fit the correct spheres and the ride and handling will be better than the C5.

Tyres. There may have some cracks in the root of the tread, but they have just been through an Mot test, without being advised on, so will be perfectly safe.

I too find the HP18 gearbox really doesn't suit the 2.1Td due to it holding lower gears and making the engine buzzy. Due to the gear changes being road speed goverened it won't change up and won't engage 4th until 50mph.

You may find new engine mounts makes a considerable difference to the transmitted noise.

I thought you were going to do both front leak off pipes when the left one split. They generally fail together.

Keep working on the car and it will improve.

so, the blower fan hasn't worked in the entire time i've had the car

today i was messing about with the controls, i put the switch to auto

cue a fizzing noise, smoke pouring from the passenger side dash

unfortunately, as i was pulling over i banged up a curb and hit a roadsign (one of the little portable ones) thankfully not much damage, in my panic i just pulled over immeditately

doesn't seem to be anything damaged, dash looks fine etc

removed the fuse and continued on my journey with no issues

i was feeling really good about this car, but this has really knowed it back a bit

Sorry to hear this, hopefully it hasn't fried anything other than the fan resistor. I bought one off fleabay last year and it seems to be decent quality.

Worth lubricating the fan shaft while is out, mine still squeaks sometimes and it's really annoying.

I need to investigate what the cause is, I’m keen to get it fixed shortly as the C5 needs new brake discs and a rear suspension leak sorting so that’ll likely be a day or two so I’ll need to daily the XM in that time and wanting to get it bearable in the heat

Resistor is a good shout, I hope that’s the only victim, the amount of smoke surprised me

I’m rather disappointed in myself for hitting something, but I was in a state of panic at the time

First things first. Get the motor out from under the dash...

I’ll get it out when I get the chance, doesn’t look too difficult, might pull it out tomorrow and inspect the damage

Never had this happen before still a bit shaken, going to buy a fire extinguisher tomorrow

The blower is held in by 3 screws. One is right at the back. Can be hard to see.
