Haha.. nooooo its nothing what so ever to do with maserati..

Only the sm in the 70s used the maserati v6..

The xm uses the last incarnation of the legendry slated prv peugeot renault volvo v6 engine jointly developed in the 70s.. used in the likes of the following
Peugeot 604, 504, 505,605...
Renault 30, 25, escape 2, laguna 1, safrane 1
Volvo 262, 265, 760,960 (possibly but may of switched tob their own straight 6 by then)
Talbot tagora sx (under peugeot)
Citroen Xm (under peugeot)
Delorean as we know
Little known early lancia themas too despite lancia having access to fiats v6 lumps

I've heard a few times people think its a maserati unit.. its not by a long way.
Thanks for this comprehensive explanation of the engine. It’s always nice to get a bit more knowledge and understanding. Anyway, it’s a sweet engine😁👍

Yes they are.. the xm also featured another in carnation .. they fitted 12v heads (24v in total) to them making 200bhp and manual only.. a beast in itself. Early engines suffured cam wear when one lifters operated 2 valves on exhaust but each inlet had its own lifters.. or vice versa.. solved by fitting ceramic followers iirc..

960 was indeed the straight six.

The Prv6 was also used in the Renault -Alpine 610/Gta turbo.
In case you've forgotton what one of those is, watch...

I think people confuse the Prv6 witht the Maserati-citroen V6 used in the Sm due to both being 90 degree vee and oringinally both being odd fire. As you know, the Prv6 latterly became even fire by splitting the crank journals.

I'd agree, the V6 is a very nice engine to ride behind, the 12v being smoother and more tractable than the 24v, though ultimately less powerful.

For the side trims in stainless steel, I thought the Dutch supplier "Garage 80" were supplying those, but can't see them listed on their website.

It might be worth contacting them.

The bumper trims are only available as supplied by Citroen, so you can only keep looking for NOS ones that turn up.

Unfortunately, yours appear beyond easy salvaging, as the aluminium layer in the laminate has corroded.

Some people have tried aluminium tape, or painting the trims.

Bumper trims.....that have gone to far

Take them off, clean and sand smooth, have them CHROME vinyl WRAPPED with good quality material designed for cars (such as 3M) .... do NOT use aluminium (ducting) tape because it is crap.

Note, professional wrappers often prefer the trip to be left on the car for the first steps............

Here they use black (it is the modern "trend" but the method is the same with chrome.

Small test patches have been on my car for nearly a year now and they look great, still chrome, no lifting etc

Thanks for the info and trim tips guys. I found a thread on here were someone says the plastic chrome inserts can be prised out. If this is the case, it did occur to me that they could be chrome vinyl wrapped, I think I will come back to this one, when the mechanical stuff has been sorted😁👍

Hi All, just got an update from my mate Peter, who is sorting my XM. It’s not great news, she doesn’t want to start. It has a spark and it is getting fuel to the injectors but the injectors don’t seem to be injecting fuel into the engine. So they are either blocked or are not activating. Do the injectors have a relay that could be U.S? I was wondering if anyone has any advice on this problem? Cheers…Derek

Injectors are triggered by the ecu I think. But I'm not 100 per cent certain. Dieselman has a better understanding of how it works.. the crank sensor must be working because you have a spark .. they could be triggured by relays ..
