I've about 5 v6 starter motors from Autos.. All working..

Ahh an early auto then.. The box MUST ONLY use DEXRON 2 fluid..
Hi Again, I am going to post an update about the XM, my mate Peter has been away, so it's only really just getting started.
Anyway, the starter is off and it's goosed, you mentioned you may have a replacement. I have attached a picture of the one that has been taken off. Could you let me know if you do have one and what the cost would be to buy it from you, including postage?

Cheers...Derek

It has taken some time to start this project, as Pete has been busy and away. As per the previous post, the starter motor is off. Apparently it took about an hour and it became a two man job?

Pete has taken all of the wheels off, to have some temporary tyres fitted, as the tyres are not holding air and the car is low enough without sitting on it's rims.

Next stage is to get a replacement starter motor, change fluids, check everything is as it should be and see if she starts. Then the suspension can be looked at.

I don't think things are looking too bad at the moment, I have posted some pics from today....Derek

The "two man job" bit is just a matter of getting used to working round the hydraulic components, which becomes easier with practice.

The rust on the front bumper outrigger is very common and usually a lot worse than your car, which just needs a rub down and repaint. Usually there isn't much left of the outrigger and often the inner wing closing plate is holed as well.

The tyres probably are scrap after sitting 22 years, probably uninflated, but if just leaking at the rim bead, forcing them to move on the bead (let down, stand on the bead, or lever it), lubricating with soapy water, then re-inflating usually makes them seal again.

It will soon be on the road.

Lovely looking car!

glad you're getting it restored

i notice, Teesside.....i'm also in Teesside

so, there's an another XM in Teesside, how wonderful!
I haven't seen an XM in Teesside for quite a few years, is yours on the road and what area are you in? I used to see a burgundy one around and about, is that one yours? Good to hear from you...
Mines a grey 2.1 td auto, only been here since April

Currently sitting at a garage in Thornaby awaiting repairs to start on Monday

I'm in Middlesbrough, hoping to have mine on the road around this time next week, feel free to have a drive of her, she does need some work

I'm so pleased there's another local one, should meet up and get both the Teesside XMs together, I can't see there being any others
Hi again, I was wondering how you got on with getting your XM sorted. Are you now running around in it? There is a group on Facebook called “Retros of Teesside” (it is a big group, worth joining) and I notice a guy has a beautiful looking blue XM. So when mine gets done, there will be 3 XM’s I’m Teesside, that we know about. Cheers Derek
