Following on from my post in new members I thought it was about time I did an update.
The car has been parked up over winter but as of May 1st taxed again and in regular use. As always there are a few jobs to do and after being reprimanded by a certain Mr Draper for my leaky rocker cover gasket that was first on the list. New gasket was Febi brand bought off eBay for about £6 and a good fit.
I was pleasantly surprised to see how clean it was internally despite the muck on the outside. One day I might even get round to detailing the engine!
While under the bonnet I also noticed some small black debris near the hydraulic pump and found the belt to be loose. Not sure how that happened but it reminded me I need to order a spare to carry.
The dipstick is another thing I need to replace before it disintegrates.

Re: 1991 2.0i Auto
I've given up on fitting new dipsticks, all the tops break off eventually.
The dipstick itself has a bend at the top to act as a retainer so wine bottle corks, beer bottle caps, and a sleeve of rubber tube seems to work.

Re: 1991 2.0i Auto
I realised the back end was getting bouncy so took a punt on some NOS spheres and fitted them tonight.
It has completely transformed the ride quality back to how it should be. The n/s sphere was full of LHM so must have been pretty flat.
Rear subframe could still do with some paint and waxoil.

Re: 1991 2.0i Auto
NOS ones are usually fine as the gas can't permeate through the membrane due to it being pressed against the inside of the steel sphere.
If a sphere squirts Lhm after removal the membrane is ruptured and it gas leaked fluid into the gas section.
What are you doing with the old ones, I am after scrap spheres.
For painting the subframe it's best to lower it from the car and give it a good wire brushing.

Re: 1991 2.0i Auto
Thanks Will. It was more of a dribble than a squirt - I'll dig out my tester and see if there's any gas remaining.
I think they are genuine ones and you are welcome to have them.
