The inboard joint boots last a lot longer than the outboard ones as the outer ones flex a lot more.

Does anyone know the part number for a gaiter to suit an automatic non ABS driveshaft? Suggested parts are listed as 22mm diameter but the shaft measures 30mm.

I would rather get the correct part than a universal fit if possible.

The P/n is 3293 95 for the boot, clips and grease.

Auto are the same as td and V6 manual and auto versions due to using the Me5T gearbox, or Hp4-18, which use the same shafts for both.
Manual for 2.0i are smaller shafts as they use the be3 gearbox.

Thanks for the info Will, I couldn't find an exact replacement so fitted a universal gaiter in the end.

The job went fairly well apart from spotting this while the hub was hanging down:

Do I need to worry? I was pushed for time so didn't investigate further.

On the positive side it sailed through the MOT today!

I didn't think it looked very good although reading the strut top guide it is low risk!?

In any case I will make it top priority to get it changed. Thanks for the Activa club link I will check it out.

In theory, you could re-bond that rubber to the steel. It has been done before and is safe as the rubber is always in compression when in use.

I'm surprised the tester didn't pick up on that...useful though as it now gives you time to deal with it.

I only noticed it because the strut was disconnected and hanging right down, so you really need to know where to look.

I don't think he has much experience of XMs (if any) and it's certainly the first time he's tested one.

It's good to know there are a few repair options available!

Picked the car up from the bodyshop yesterday after having the nose cone, wing, front passenger door and roof plastic bits painted. They also gave it a machine polish and wax afterwards.

The previous owner sadly passed away last week and I'll be taking it to his funeral. Syd was 93 and I'd known him for nearly 30 years. He was partly to blame for my fascination with hydraulic Citroëns after I bought an Ami Super chassis from him and saw all his CXs.
