The alternator was also in catastrophic condition,I replaced the bearings, brushes and the rotor collet, and of course I washed it of excess oil.

I have the same job to do on my alternator. Does it come apart easily once the pulley is removed and the outer casing separated? I would be grateful if you have any more photos of the slip ring / collet disassembly.
Many thanks.

...you probably mean this sliding sleeve, this is the Alternator from Xantia, the replacement principle is the same for all, I only have these pictures.

Slowly remove the plastic ring and separate the wires that are sealed in the protection.

Once you've cleaned everything thoroughly and freed the wires, pull the ring off the axle.

Finally, put everything back in its place, I used two-component glue for gluing.

...I think these pictures helped you. In principle, it's not complicated to replace the collector on the alternator rotor. Of course, you can also do the entire service, replacing the bearings and brushes.

Thanks for the extra details and photos, much appreciated. I will probably replace the bearings while it is stripped down. Brushes and collector are very worn so definitely need renewing.
