. V6 12v Manual 1993 Sei

Post by citroenxm » Thu May 25, 2023 12:00 pm

Hi all.. at completely the wrong timing and more so out-of the blue I recived a message from an xm owner..

Would I like an xm.
Urrm, I have no money..
I dont want anything, im loosing my storage etc and dont really want the car to goto scrap and would like to see it done back up..
Right .. OK yes. That be great ... thanks..

So it duly arrived. Along with an excess if other bits..

Timing couldn't of been slightly worse, with a relapse in my myeloma I've started treatment but it doesn't matter..

So here we have ...

So we have a 1993 L reg 3.0 V6 Sei in rare manual form. She's a 12v and a number of things needing attention on an mot fail last year.

Starts and drives but came without hydraulic pressure upon closer inspection the regulator to flow divider pipe had sheared off at the flare on the flow divider.
20230521_152443.jpg
Already full of new green lhm there was no need to find any.. quick prime of the pump and replaced the regulator to flow divider pipe with one from the container .. we did it up.. and started up and held my breath pump primed bubbles appeared in the lhm tank. Closed the regulator up and pressure rose and up she came and sat on perfectly nice set of spheres ... a quick check over on mot items steering rack boots were mentioned as missing but from what I could see both are present .. and there also seems to be little to no leak at the rear which was also mentioned on the mot..

At the moment that is as far as I have got as treatment has started on me again. .

The plan. Really to complete the car best I can and sell on.

That looks like it will make someone a very nice car once those few jobs are sorted. Is it a bit moist around the bottom of the height corrector - maybe weeping slightly hence the leak comment?

Hopefully it will provide a welcome distraction from other things if you are able to manage it.

Yes there is a clean height corrector in the boot.. when I'm able to get back under ill swap it over but currently for manoeuvring and other jobs she's workable..

I've already got arrangements to have the front bumper, both wings sprayed up. I think ive still got a white nose cone at the farm for her..

Appears to have a 24v instruments set installed and is in pretty good condition generally.

Nice freeby, especially being a manual.
If it's RP 5876, it has a bit of history with the hydraulics which may need a bit more attention than first thought. Nothing that can't be sorted with a bit of persistance.
I believe it has broken the main feed pipe more than once, however it's possible the replacement pipes haven't been as robust as the original Citroen ones, or installation has been causing the pipes to fail at the swage.
All the issues appeared to start after the regulator was rebuilt, rapid tick time, broken pipes, possible internally leaking doseur valve.

I'm sure you will sort it out...good luck with everything.

Hi will.. I believe its poor flaring of the replacment pipes tat were fitted, I will remove the currently fitted hp pipe and inspect, the last pipe fitted is still in place in the engine bay..

It is that said car, and as said looking at the replacment pipes flared there was a sharp marking next to the flare which I believe contributed to the pipe shear in all cases.

Maybe the suppliers tooling has a sharp corner that needs a larger radius...or they are being a bit heavy handed when making the pipes.

Quite possibly. I'm going to get a set of 6.35mm dies for my flare tool to safe guard me when I initially start road testing her..

Found 10 mins to have a quick look under and around the floor and for further investigation to what work may be needed referring to its last mot ...

This were my findings...

Clearly all looking all in place the lhm leaks from previous has soften the underseal a bit as it does..

The list shortens and shortens. There's still an exhaust blow to attend to at the rear somewhere .. spot of weld may be needed.. but it will need to wait a bit while I sort me out.

That all looks quite clean and tidy underneath.

Certainly a lot better than the 2.1 I was working on today.

I agree about the body condition being good, bar the front jacking point and maybe a rear sill area.

The MOT history is alarming until one realises it is the same reasons for failure year after year.
It appears no issues were being attended to, other than just enough to gain a one year pass, then failure again the next year.

I suspect the tester was fed up with seeing the same points at every test, so threw the book at it.

To all:
My advice is fIx anything the Mot tester deems a fail, or an advisory that could become a fail, or they have noticed while checking the car...It's free advice.
Even if one gains a pass, ask the tester if there are any issues to be aware of.
An impartial tester doesn't want to see cars failing tests, they would rather see cars in good, roadworthy condition, passing with flying colours.

Don't bother presenting cars one knows are going to fail, it's a waste of your time and money, check the car over first.
