The mats are going when I get the car home! The previous owner made a point in telling me he bought new mats for it. He also bought new sidelamp lenses from Citroen.

Still has a series 1 steering wheel Peter, the later 2 spoke affair which is great at hiding all the low doen switches. but Paul is supplying me a single spoker to put in, so that will make things better.

The only thing I don't like about the turbo petrol is its appetite for Petrol. If I can get this looking as well as Matthew T's cars I'll be doing well.

Ding! The Petrol has to be an LPG powered one to make them viable! Hence my Turbo on LPG, and my V6 on LPG.. Its the only way for us lesser earners.. or of course DERV!

Doing what might end up being less than 6,000 miles a year in a stylish petrol-powered car that (since I have had it) averages 31 mpg that cost a few hundred quid is not going to make me bemoan the fact I haven't got a diesel!

Petrol: Cost of fuel, 6,000 miles @ 31 mpg = c.£970
Diesel: (assuming 43 mpg?) = c.£755 (diesel's a tad more expensive than 95 RON)...

So the difference is £215 or so. If I was doing lots more miles maybe I'd worry about it.

PS Maybe I've underestimated the economy of a diesel XM? Please correct me if I have.

The diesels can do ~40mpg generally, over 50 if driven carefully, I believe Peter regularly gets this kind of mileage out of them.

I do not see much wrong with your calculation.
Only if you run the diesel on WVO or home BIO does it get appreciably cheaper.
Time and labour needs to go into that though.
My annual mileage is typically 3 to 4 times greater.
Did not fancy using gas so the V6's have gone now replaced by 2.5's.
The fuel saving went into some extra cars as cheap spares.

£215 quid is a weeks wages and worth QUITE a lot to me...

I prefer the in gear torque from a DERV too.. But thats another argument thats always going on - and a ~preference to Petrol or DERV will ALWAYS be personal preference and everytime we have the debait we NEVER get a soild conclusion.

In general, the Diesels (2.1's) DO do more to the gallon then the Petrols NO ARGUMENT there, but the actual driving pleasure is each and every one of ours personal opinion! To me the EVERY MAXIMUN Mile I can get from a gallon which can save me a quid or two goes a long way.. not by choice but the way it is in my life and small earnings I dont get up here on Anglesey.

Im not moaning, I like what I do, and dont mind were I live, and for me, its a Diesel to drive OR if petrol, would have to be on LPG for every day use.

Diesels will reward gentle driving as the mixture is determined by your right foot so on small throttle openings they run very weak, if you drive them hard a lot of the economy will be lost, in fact flat out they will be very little better than a petrol, so a bigger higher geared engine can actually be more economical than a small one on account of the ruduced throttle opening, For my style of driving 50 mpg in a manual XM is the norm except for very short journeys.
