I was sorry to hear of your latest issue Dean and I have learnt from bitter experience that on the PRV V6 at least the pump belt needs to be kept really tight to survive! I also usually carry a spare belt just to be safe! Regards, Matthew T.

Oh no! ...Not another issue. At least this is hopefully easily dealt with. I always keep a spare belt in the boot too.

Was this the original regulator, or a newly installed one.

Didn't you increase system pressure at one point, if so, it may be the smaller diameter pulley on the pump just can't take the load.

I have always had the issue the FDV hisses while driving constantly below 2k rpm, trouble is that normal driving doesn't take engine speed above 2k, this is odd considering im using the same FDV and pressure regulator from the 2.0i.

Yes Will, i did up pressure and the belt drive ratio is a lot higher than the 2.0i i assum ebecause the pump is driven from the cam on this engine which will be half crank speed.

My belt was so tight it bends the pump bracket over, that is too tight surely?! i never had any issues with the 2.0 setup, that was a long belt run too using the same V belt and it never needed to be that tight and never slipped either.

Im sure this hiss after shutting the engine down is an indication something is blocked but then the steering works fine and i would think if there was any restriction you would notice it with the steering...........

What happens if you relax the depressurising bolt, and then try and turn/run the pump?
Pressure relief (control) valve stuck?

Interesting. Noticed mine has been doing a similar thing recently. Switch off, get out, lock car, car hisses, the electrovalve clunks, all is quiet. Sure it's not meant to be like that.....
But like yours, no obvious signs in ride, brakes or steering.

That is normal Russ, mine always does that and the hiss comes from under the car, this hiss comes from the front of the engine and tails away slowly, like pressure bleeding away.

Chris that is a good idea, i will try that later as the pump should not build pressure with that open.

Ahhh. Very different then. It's something the old car didn't do that I can remember. Mind you my memory is like a sieve at the best of times.

If it's not hydraulic, most likely.... not a coolant issue?

My memory is getting awful too, as the years go by it is getting worse too, pretty soon i will forget my name!

No i'm sure it is hydraulic, thinking about it i have not been getting the hiss at idle like you do with most FDV equipped cars, it hisses between 1100rpm and about 1800rpm, at idle i was getting silence but with very occasional belt chirp.

I think there may be an issue but not sure where, im going to investigate.

My belt was so tight it bends the pump bracket over, that is too tight surely?!
I am very surprised that your belt slipped Dean in that case, unless the size is wrong!
