Re: My Citroen XM 3.0 PR-Vestige
thanks all for info, dean .. did you make up yourself the connector pipe with 4.5mm (male?) one end (to connect ot the car) and 1/4" (male?) the other, to connect to the gauge, or did you buy that?

Steve, no I have a Citroen hydraulic test kit although if you have a Citroen 4.5mm joiner you could weld a 1/4" black iron coupler to one end of it and use a recovered bit of 4.5mm pipe flared at both ends as a joiner or if you connect at the joiner on the subframe you can take the supply pipe out and wind it into the frankenstien joiner with a 1/4" coupler welded on the end..............if you see what I mean.
I think Will made his own kit up, not sure how he did it?

Re: My Citroen XM 3.0 PR-Vestige
I had a hydraulics hose specialist make a joint between some 4.5mm pipe and their supplied flexible hose, which then had a gauge adapter on the end. Not cheap.Dean wrote:Steve, no I have a Citroen hydraulic test kit although if you have a Citroen 4.5mm joiner you could weld a 1/4" black iron coupler to one end of it and use a recovered bit of 4.5mm pipe flared at both ends as a joiner or if you connect at the joiner on the subframe you can take the supply pipe out and wind it into the frankenstien joiner with a 1/4" coupler welded on the end..............if you see what I mean.

CuNi 4.5mm pipe slides neatly into 6.35mm pipe.
Ideal for a brazed joint.

Will anyone braze a joint that is to withstand upto 200 Bar?

Re: My Citroen XM 3.0 PR-Vestige
A Brazed joint will take that no problem with this size pipe, silver solder would hold although it would be a bit borderline.

A number of the connectors in the Citroen workshop pipe kit are made from brazed components.
As an alternative a 4.5mm pipe will flare to fit a 3/16" joint.
3/16" to 1/4" are standard items.
Needs a bit of ingenuity to lock the 4.5mm pipe into a flare clamp.
I have seen a V6 XM repaired underneath with 3/16" pipe and fittings.
That must have been two or three years ago.
Car is still running ok.

Re: My Citroen XM 3.0 PR-Vestige
Progress was on and off today but the FDV and pressure regulator have both been removed, both stripped down and rebuilt, I also found a rebuilt FDV in one of my boxes, stripped it to compare to mine and make sure it was rebuilt, it was so I will fit this just in case.
Tested the pressure reg and it was 145bar cut in 185bar cut out, I removed a shim to take it back down to stock 175bar but to be honest, i can't see it will cause any problems, the pump is near impossible to turn by hand at these pressures anyway, i couldn't feel the 10bar less made any difference.
Slightly disappointing and concerning results, i was expecting to find some major problem but nothing, it all seems perfectly serviceable so................
All the pipework has been removed and blown through, there are no obstructions so far but i have the main pump to FDV supply pipe to check yet, tomorrow evening i will put it all back together and try again but im not holding out much faith as other than using a different re-built FDV i have found and done nothing.

Sorry for butting in, but that seems like an awful lot of work, undoing and refitting many connectors. You mean really ALL pipework on the vehicle, or just a particular area?

Re: My Citroen XM 3.0 PR-Vestige
No Jan, all the pipework between the pump and the subframe, there is no need to be looking further than that as my issue is belt slip not poor function of the hydraulic system as such, if there was an issue it would be between the pump, FDV and pressure regulator somewhere.
