It may well have done but I am currently heading to Wales to catch a ferry and won't see the car for over 2 weeks now to find out if the success continues.
My FDV no longer hisses though, not sure why that would be but it may settle down and the hiss return.

I have been dealing with the official bits and bobs today, V5, insurance etc. I was not overjoyed at doing this but it turned out to be painless in the extreem.

First off the insurance, gave them a call and talked through what i had done, where the engine came from and what it was, emailed a couple of photo's over for agreed valuation purposes and left it with them, they called back after half an hour to say there was no change in the premium so it would remain at £55/annum + the £30 agreed valuation fee (£85 fully comp per year) but i would need to pay a one off £25 admin fee to change the policy mid term. Winner!

Called the DVLA and they told me i needed to fill out the V5 with the exact CC of the engine, the new engine number with the V5 signed and dated to the address in section 8, since i have no receipt for purchasing the engine from a reputable source i must have the engineers report on headed paper from a garage or the manufacturer. My local cit dealer had already priced to do that for me for a few ££ but they have been dragging their feet a little as the guy there has never done one before and wasn't sure what the DVLA actually want them to report on but after a call today we have booked that for the 1st september and he is going to speak to the DVLA directly to find out.

So, all in all very painless, The car will be shown on the V5 as a Citroen XM 2975cc Prestige with no funny markers and my insurers have said once the V5 and DVLA database is updated the vehicle will just show as if it was a standard unmollested car in future so no need to continually declare it as modified.

The long road is nearly at an end.

That's great news. You expect any dealings with the DVLA to be a complete pain in the behind. Nice result.

Very understanding insurance too. Who are you with Dean?

I can tell you because i actually have my documents here with me! it's Fluxdirect
No frills, just fully comp, agreed valuation, social domestic and pleasure use and 3k mileage limit but to be fair uping the mileage doesn't make a whole lot of difference unless you start making it a proper using vehicle covering 12k-15k a year.
Nice bunch to deal with.

The DVLA were fine but of course it isn't done yet, if i had a reciept to prove where the engine came from i wouldn't need an engineers report, i think they just want to check the engine isn't from a stolen vehicle tbh.

I went through all that many years ago when putting a standard Morris 1300 engine into a '59 Mini.
Was all quite painful and protracted, and no way would Swansea actually speak on the phone!
Took a lot of persuading that I wasn't going to rally or race with it.

Good result, Dean. Very jealous of that Flux figure: nothing like that here!
Fingers crossed on the belt front.

That's a flipping good price. I paid £189 this year, full comp, social domestic and pleasure, 3k mileage, agreed value and salvage retention. But it is declared as parked on the road. Even though I will be mostly parking it in the garage from now on, or as much as I can. Annoying there is no sometimes parked in the garage option!
Considering Footman James tried to quote me £250 as renewal and insurance prices have gone up, I was quite happy with that, but yours is impressively low.

If you have a garage, and the car will fit then declare it as garaged, if you go away for the weekend do you have to get home saturday night to put the car back in the garage?
Another big factor is where i live, very low crime, quiet roads etc, that and i have a boring job title i can use.................Transport manager lol

When i renewed in April i think the cost went down on the previous year, i didn't even have to call them, they just sent the renewal and it was cheaper.

I have declared several as garaged, which they sometimes were.
Transport Manager certainly beats DJ, unemployed jazz musician, minicab driver . . .
At age 19, I remember using Local Government Officer (and Norman Frizzell, of BH13 fame) to decent advantage.

With mine, they say if it's declared as garaged it has to be between 10pm - 6am, if it's parked at home address.
I suppose who are they to know though if it gets broken into in the road. Drive round to the garage as say it's was done in there!! naughty! :

I think my job title, self employed, address quite near the centre of town, although Cheltenham is hardly A crime hotspot!... all have contributed. Plus there is the accident history thing still punishing.

I have to admit this year i was a bit lazy and didn't do too much hunting around. Still saved money though. :D

you price is still good.
I think so long as you garage it most of the time it's fine, mine is in the "garage" most of the time but sometimes it will be left on the drive or the road if i am working on another vehicle, i have driven into town or to a party and walked home or got a taxi before, i can't see they can refuse to pay out just because it's not in the garage all the time.
