I finally got the engine from YOG home today and began stripping it down, this engine is actualy a post 94 UFZ unit and if i had known i would have seriously considered using it in the prestige, it is in very good condition (pending a good check of the valve gear) and has the later and better oil pump and cam drive sprockets on the crank, also has a better balancer chain tensioner spring and is a lot cleaner inside.
It's evident this engine has done more miles but the bores are still good and it looks like it's had a more pampered life, less messed about with internally, i'm positive the other engine had been apart several times which was a pre 94 SFZ engine.

Having said that it does mean i have a good second engine, may need new rocker arms, rings and bearings but even though on the outside it looked like a stone the bores look good and there is no corrosion on the gasket faces and water jacket. I think a full rebuild may be on the cards, not a strip down to feed the parts bin.

Ahh ha Ive been rumbled !!

I actually was ready to swap YOGs engine again, Ill let you into a secret Dean, its out of an S2 car, but it had good milage when I put it in YOG, in reality... ready for it, I calculated there is over or near 200k on it. IIRC when I put it in YOG it had about 170k on it!!

Yes its a newer engine, HOWEVER at the farm in an outside corner is YOGs very original engine!! VERY alloy corroded, and was removed for an autobox issue that I cannot remember now, but I did know that yogs original enigne had the heads all done with new gaskets and top end! It was a low milage 130k engine when it came out!

I was in infancy when all this swapping came along!

I guess useing LPG on yog has helped the internal condition of the engine, it did though fail to run on petrol completely when I handed her over to dean!

Lack of internal corrosion is my testiment of 80% anti freeze or higher in my engines!!!

Agree there about the antifreeze. You only have to look at the two XUD engines I have, made within a week of each other and the internal conditon of the water jackets are chalk and cheese. The lower milage one is shocking in comparison. It really does pay to keep it at a good strength and regularly changed.

I have to say Paul it ain't bad at all, very slight lip in the bore, you can just feel it but i think it may hone out it's so slight, the cam lobes are worn over spec so it could do with a pair of new cams and a set of rockers which im trying to negotiate on at the moment but all in all it's a very good engine.

Probably just a duff tappet or 3, I've not tested them yet, the engine i have in the prestige sometimes taps for a second or two if it's not been run for a couple of weeks but i think that would be normal, the tappets tested out fine when i had the engine stripped......................What are you doing with Yog's original engine, Paul?

Absolutley nothing Dean.. might keep the water pump.. but otherwise it will possibly be bin if its not a pile of alloy corrosion

I wouldn't be wanting to rebuild the engine, after sitting about outside it will be a major job, if not scrap but there is an outside chance the cams and liners could be ok, certainly, the rockers should be fine, I'm up your way again in October..................................
