The gearbox selection is a very personal one and although the older autos are not as efficient as a manual, coupled with the 4 speed boxes taller gearing and greater losses they do hurt the lower output engines a bit, the losses in 0-60 times is all down to setting off at idle and slightly taller gearing.
Years ago When I had a BMW 530 3 spd auto I used to think it must be broken but it was so smooth.

Glad you got it all buttoned up Russ and your happy with it, you deserve to enjoy it now this year. You should know I don't care about thread hijack, the state of this one nobody would notice anyway😂

Looking at renewing my insurance this month, the premium has jumped form about £60 to nearly £150! Apparently the risk rating of the car has the up!?!? I know Will and russ have been doing their best to achieve this in recent years😂😂😂😂 (sorry gentleman) but does this some right or do those in the know think this is rubbish?

LOL... :x
no-one wants to be a statistic...

The additional rating will be due to the engine transplant catching up with you. Maybe your insurer considered a wheezy 2.0 with modifications to be less of a risk than a 3.0 in standard form.
My insurance hasn't changed noticeably, so it's hard to see the risk rating of the model has.
Yours is insured on a classic policy. Maybe it was under-rated previously and now values are stregthening, risk of payouts have gone up as well.
iirc, a few years ago, Pauls 24v was written off for a dented door and broken mirror. That's just not going to happen now.

Regarding 0-60 times, for the standing start auto's are held pedal to the metal and brake hard on...then GO!

I drove an S2 3.0 auto and at normal open road speeds it was no quicker to accelerate than a 2.1td manual. The go pedal had to be prodded pretty hard at times.

There was a reason the 2.5 was never offered with an auto box... ;)

I expect the result would be a lot of flying coggs and springs! BOOM!

I'm not apposed to autos, I love a decent auto, but the ZF in a 2.1 does stiffle it some what. The V6 autos I have driven have been very quick and quite enjoyable. However age and complexity are now a worry I don't want!

Hi Michael

Sorry for the delayed response, things have suddenly turned a little hectic, currently the car is not for sale and I hope it will stay that way but if I do have to sell, it will be posted here first.

Thanks
Dean

The prv I found fine.. Wiring that runs down the front bank next to the altinator can give issues with starter solinoid. Yog had the famous starter "Click" issue. I put in a direct push feed to it and it was fine ever since. It wasn't till later I found cable issues...

My 24v has the same issue but there's a circular plug top left of the engine and the solinoid wire joins here. I can flash it from there to fire up.. But will be looked at closer when I get back to her

Unfortunately I have to do my own catering which is a shocking oversight on her part, although not a view she shares unfortunately.

I have managed to source the last panel, the drivers side wing, just got to finish building the drivers side wheels arch, make a complete new in inner wing and pretty much build a new front right corner to the van due to a botched previous repair and the re-clothing can commence😀
