I did check the electrovalve against those specs and it checks out fine from the multiplug by the strut top on the drivers side, i also managed to check the the body movement sensor and the steering angle sensor and they are fine too, so................i gave up and continued to drive it with the ECU plugged back in.

This weekend i went snorkeling with the little one and decided to take the XM, what was surprising was that from first starting the sport light stayed on as the switch was left in sport mode some time ago so i could see if the system came back to life, the suspension has worked faultlessly since with not the smallest hint of a problem..................

This is confusing and annoying but it is now working so.........

Enjoy while it's working!

Getting the XM ready for the Isle of Wight car show this coming weekend at the moment, and the fast approaching winter layup.
Looking back through the history I noticed it's been over 8 years since my last LHM change so bought 5ltrs on eBay for £30 and did the deed last night, the fluid still looked pretty clean and the filters only had a few bits in them, water however was plentiful in the tank, looked like hundreds of little flat marbles rolling around in the bottom of the waste oil can so clad it was changed. Priming the pump was a bit of a pain again but all went well in the end.

Next job is to look at the cooling fans, I only ever get both fans on together running slowly with the a/c or 1 fan if the engine gets too warm even when at 100oC so I wonder if there is a duff relay preventing full speed operation, I am still running the 2.0i bitron controller too so I think that needs swapping out, if I can remember which one it is.

If you get only one fan running when High Speed triggers, but both running on Slow, it's for certain a dirty relay contact or base connection.

Lots of water in LHM tank sounds a bit grim - how did it get there?
Thank heavens LHM isn't hygroscopic!

I would imagine 8 years of condensation in the tank is the cause, i hope it is just a relay but i want to swap the controller first, i think that turns the fans on at th right temperature depending on engine, the PRV engine has a bit of an odd coolant sensor positioning with the ECU seeing combined hotest water from both heads exiting the block as does the guages but the fan sensor is positioned on the old end of the front head, which is the coolest of the two. The 2.0i engine has all the temp sensors in the hotest water at the thermostat housing so if the fans were turned on at 90oC on that engine that was the hotest part of the water jacket but with the PRV the fan sensor will be seeing maybe 80oC in its location when the water flowing out of the heads to the rad is nearer 90oC.

Cannot remember exactly but there was a good 10oC difference in coolant temp between the two sensor locations, an issue not present with the 2.0i engine.

Hi Dean,

Have just put together some info on the triple relays, here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=9137#p110734.
Your loss of one fan at High Speed will be one of the 4-pin relays at fault.
As Slow and one fan at High Speed operate ok, fault not likely to be further upstream.
The controller simply calls for Slow or Fast, but it's the relays that turn on the fans, either in series or parallel.

Unwrapped the car today to give it a little startup and air out, not been started since I put it away at the end of September or beginning of October, can't quite remember, but turned the key and it started straight up, not had the battery on charge or anything, pretty impressed with that, 2-3 months left sitting and it starts up no bother 8-)

2-3 months! Nothing to complain about there!

Disturbed her from the annual slumber on Saturday after around 6months off the road, went out for a drive Saturday to let it stretch it's legs as she is now currently in for the MOT, fingers crossed as I have done nothing with the car since last September other than uncover and start it twice :?
