Good to hear. How's it driving now it has a wobbly stick thing in the centre console?

Mine failed on having the o/s headlamp go out when flashing main beam, the n/s lamp would then just flicker. When I got it home it was the n/s lamp going out, finally tracked down the fault to a bad light switch / indicator stalk, bit odd as depending how you wiggled the switch one or the other headlamp would flicker or go out. All fixed now though I hope, passed the retest today anyway.

How is yours doing since the conversion.

D

The lights switches use a series of small rollers to make the contacts. If the rollers stick it produces strange results.
A clean with switch-cleaner and some excercise will probably see that switch return to life.

Sorry to hear that Dean. Hopefully you have got a pass on the retest. Mine played up on the dipped beam. The relays are slightly loose in the plugs, so I use tape to secure them from the slam panel. They were fine and working well, but of course on the test, nothing.
Little tweak and back to normal operation.

Different! :D I like it. Cruises down the motorway a lot quieter than the auto. More torque all round too I think.
It's totally standard, no boost tweaks or gadgets ect. Just need to drive it some more and make sure everything is okay, then I can relax a bit.

The manual is nearly 2 seconds quicker 0-60 mph and vastly improved midrange.

For you headlamps, it is the female socket conenctors are slightly worn/splayed, my cobalt car has done this a couple of times.
As a get round, twist the relay pins a little. Long term, sort the connectors.

Welcome to the Manual club. They are rather good, and you get to sleep at night. ;)

Yes, it's definitely the sockets. Good tip on the relay pins. I'll give it a go.

I have just taken it out for a blast in the Cotswolds, and my god it's a transformed car.
There just seems more torque in every gear. Love it!

Sorry Dean, didn't mean to hi jack your thread. Enough talk of mine and back to yours. I'll have to go and dig out my old threa for an update.

I know it's nothing new, but with a manual you really do get to discover what a good engine can deliver, both in gentle driving and under power. The better the engine, the more this seems true. The Rover V8 was a classic example: essentially the same engine in 3500 (auto) and manual 3500S, but a totally different driving experience! And I know which I'd rather overtake in, too.

I have to say, all things considered, I prefer driving a S1 XM V6 auto to a manual, but then both models are fortunately blessed with plenty of torque! Perhaps I am getting old as I like a comfortable cruiser with power available when required. That is fantastic news about completing your project Russ and well done you! With regards, Matthew T.
