Here are some photos after I got the car home showing the outside, inside and engine bay before cleaning. Quite a lot of work to be done, but I still think she is worth restoring!! Regards, Matthew T.

It is the rear quarter light that is broken Paul that I think could be tricky to remove from an old door. The engine starts and runs well Robert and I think the gearbox is okay too at 119K. As the car is not road legal I can't test her out properly. All the hydraulics appear to work fine although the spheres are definitely shot. Regards, Matthew T.

Good, thats the main thing as long as it runs ok.

I think your best bet is to get a replacement door from somewhere. Its a pain, but so is having to try and replace that little pane of glass as well.

Thanks for your suggestion Robert, although I thought I might try an auto glass company for replacement first. The interior has cleaned up nicely and I have fixed a number of basic faults, like blown dash lights. Regards, Matthew T.

Very worthwhile of saving, congratulations!!
The leather looks like new. Mine (identical color spec) at 170k, is noticeably worse (lines/cracks, not matt anymore, not so taught). 119k is nothing for these engines -but check when is it that the timing chains must be renewed-. And if the auto gearbox goes, put a manual one (is it not the ME5?) and you'll have a fast XM.

Is the o/s sphere almost touching the firewall or it's the photo? Tired strut top rubber?

cheers
George

Very, very nice! I liked that car a lot when I saw it on ebay; I'm pleased someone saved it :D

Great colour, and I love those alloys too.
