Happy days on Thursday, another clean pass for the MOT. When the car was brought into the workshop all the mechanics came over for a look around it. They loved it. I was asked by the tester, who has his own restored classics, if it had been painted, or was original paint. He was impressed with the condition.
I regassed the spheres on this car a few months ago, it's really floaty now.
I had to give it a wash before taking it, as it was covered in sanding dust from me painting my welder in the garage, when an elderly lady delivering leaflets walked up the drive, stopped in the porch, turned and said "Two XM".

What...??!!

Turns out she had had a few GS then a BX GTi...

Apparently, some time ago, the MOT testers friend had a BX-16v, which he thought was pretty quick. :D

I was travelling along when the van cme straight acrross a crossroads from a side road. I spun round and this is where I ended up. Neat parking, hey?

The door looks like a simple exchange job. The rear panel may be able to be welded in. The hassle on the other hand . . .

I would be well cheesed off if it were mine!

Gosh what a dreadful thing to happen Will and I am so very sorry for you!! If it is any consolation at all, my mandarin car took two slightly similar hits on the same front door, plus a front wing needed replacement first time around. I also had a large dent the rear wing on my gold car (someone's bum!), which it was fortunately possible to knock out from inside where there is very good access. At least it was clearly not your fault and make sure you get a huge payment from their insurance. I would say your car is worth at least £3,000!! Please do keep us posted on progress Will and all the best with the reparations. The main thing is that you are okay and anything on the car can be fixed. With regards, Matthew T.

.................gutted for you Will, that is one of, if not the best XM around.

If you need a rear quarter let me know, im sure that side on YOG is the only one that isnt contaminated with brown and was going to recover it for myself but your welcome to it, the rest of the chassis is junk on that car.
Given the force of impact i would suspect the damage is more than whats on the surface but i am hoping not for your sake.

Thanks Guys.

It's immediately obvious that the damage is more than superficial. The sill is crushed in and C-pillar/wheelarch has been pushed inwards and forcibly parted company from the rear wing. The door innards are distorting the rear seat base by a couple of inches and the lock striker plate has gone upwards tilting the door so the upper frame overlaps the front door.

I estimate the side impact speed was approx 25mph, or so.

The van doesn't look too healthy, either.

I was amazed when the van driver insisted it was my fault, so I called the Police. My insurance company has noted my comments and looked at all available images of the street and their professional opinion is that I had right of way.

I think the fact you had right of way would be obvious for anybody with the most basic understanding of the highway code................ it doesnt change the situation though unfortunately.
Is the driver the beanie wearing individual in the photo by any chance?

bit odd the junction has no markings or signage though.
