Ahhhhhh no Will!

I just saw this, really can't believe it!
So sorry you've had to experience that, on one of the nicest 2.1TDs around as well.Absolutely gutted for you.

I would be literally seething if that were mine, especially with the van drivers attitude that it wasn't his fault when you had right of way. Why couldn't he have crashed into an easily replaceable dime a dozen Mondeo or some VAG tedious nonsense instead? FFS. :x

I know if its within your power to repair it you will. As the others have said, it may well be possible to legally put it back on the road provided the standard of the repair can be proven. Good that you've stood your ground with ownership so far.

You know everyone here will offer whatever help, parts etc they can to bring it back to life, if possible.

Well Will, how are you and the Mandarin machine getting along, any decisions from insurance etc on if you'll be able to repair it?
I really hope so.

I need to get back to them with a value. The shell is total loss.

Really sorry to hear it WIll, I had hoped you could have maybe got it on a jig and straightened out the subframe and chassis members.

I presume you're planning to re-shell the rest of it?

The problem is going to be finding a rust free shell, to use the good bits with.

Anything is fixable given enough resource, but the assessor thought the damage would cost £8k to fix...if parts were available, which they aren't. The vehicle structure is pretty damaged.

We've already looked at that. The only car for sale wasn't as good condition or provenance and was an auto. That car is no longer for sale as it is being held onto by the owner. It's difficult to value a car when there simply aren't any similar ones available.
My intention was to never sell that car, so to now be in the position of probably losing money on it, irrespective of the thousands of hours put into it, is somewhat disheartening.

Hi Will,
Once again it was very distressing to hear your further news and to understand that the car is now unlikely to be repaired. If you are looking for a decent shell to rebuild or another XM it would be well worth contacting Danny at Wolsey House Motors in Norfolk, who I just happened to call in and see earlier this week. I understand that Danny has several cars dry stored in addition to a few other early and late models in the yard.
With regards,

1990 V6.24 Pallas (Germany car)

Other previous XM sold and broken too many to mention!

Quick "How To" remove the carpet post.

You need to empty the cabin as the carpet is one piece and goes under the heater box which traps it in.

Technically the dashboard, heater box, and steering column come out as a single unit, but not when you're working on your own.
