Yep side impact bars seem to have paid off here!

I must have been doing between 45-50mph when the car first started sliding.

The additional door side impact beam (Which are actually tubular in shape) was introduced on the S2 (IIRC possibly on some very very late S1.5 according to John/XMExclusive) so as Robert's estate is/was a S1.5 !

I therefore have a question for you Robert ?

As the N/S/F passenger door/sill took most of the impact, if it's not too much trouble could you confirm if in fact your XM had the tubular side impact bar fitted to this particular XM ?

Best Regards Robert, and I'm really glad you both came out of this incident alive !

Hi Will,
I'm very very sorry, to have included your quote in my /\ post and I can see the error of my deciphering your post
It was Jorgy's post that threw me which in-turn made me include your comment/quote !

But if if you'd been thro' the problem's I've been thro' (Women, car's & house) in the last week, it's a wonder I can even be bothered with switching on the computer or TV :!:

I'll pull the door card off and investigate it for you, and perhaps take some more pictures.

When I had the car at full height this morning, I had a look underneath, and the main support member that goes under the floor pans is where the damage stopped.

My L-reg [pr6336, April 1994] has them, both in front and rear doors, hence my comment. Let's see what Robert finds.

Very easy to tell with this particular car, the doors have been conveniently removed by the fire service and stacked neatly beside it

Hi Robert.

Sorry to read of this cars demise! It looked so nice when you got it first. I'm glad you both came out alive! It could have been so much worse.

No problem, my post probably wasn't very clear.
Hopefully things should be ok for you now...well, as long as the car's sorted.... ;)
