Series 1, 24v For Sale

Post by andy » Sat Oct 09, 2010 7:56 pm

Hi all, the time has come when I am ready to say farewell to my series 1, 24V beast. Its been a long time coming as all you regulars will know, but I've at last got all the niggly jobs done, got it tested and taxed and done the grand total of 80ish miles since. I think that says it all, I don't use her and I think it deserves to be used or taken to shows and I just have lost the inclination to give her the love she deserves. I've got a new toy (Maxi Scooter) to remind me of fun times in the sun in Tenerife, OK we haven't got the sun here much but I've fancied a scooter since returning from Tenerife just over 8 months ago and got my hands on a beauty, to that is getting all my attention now. The only thing left to do on my XM is fit a motor to the passenger seat, I've got the motor, but just not got around to fitting it. I've polished and tinkered for hours on end and I am now proud to pass it on to another enthusiast who is going to give it the attention she deserves.
I''m looking for offers over £2000 for the year I think its a fantastic example and everything on her still works. Regulars on the forum will know the history behind the car, I've had it around 8 years now, its been garaged for all of that time, and not been on the road (until very recently) for over two and a half years, whilst I was living the dream in Tenerife. Theres a few recent pictures to remind you all and I invite any questions. I've got more photos which I can email if you wish and look forward to your comments, good, bad or indifferent.

Cheers

Andy

Loks like a car to be proud of. I'm a tinkerer and polisher rather than a spannerer and always appreciate a good looking beast.

Do I take it from your posts that you are in the Doncaster area down in the midlands?

Either buy a proper locking key from a dealer or use a reverse thread gripping socket or just bash a strong socket onto the locking bolt and it should come out.

I removed a set from a Seat Leon Cupra last weekend for a friend who didn't have the key.

I found a 12 sided socket that just went over the top of the bolt and then went back a size, in this case it was a 20mm socket.

Got a lump hammer and belted the socket onto the nut. Put a breaker bar on it and pulled it and it came off within 30 seconds.

It seems like a brutal way of doing it but it saves some amount of time. Just buy a cheap socket so you don't damage a good one.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to have a play next week when the weather is fine. I'm going to get in touch with the last owner now the log books come, hopefully they might have the key still. Heres a picture of my VTS, oh and my new 500 scooter. Cheers Andy

I've done a deal with Andy and I'm heading down to collect this car on Saturday.

Can't wait to drive one again, it's been ages since I've driven one of my 24v's!

Thats a very smart car David.

Please tell me you're going to remove that splitter thing from the front bumper.

Hi Robert,

I'd forgotten that was on the car until I looked at the pictures again the other night!

I'm reserving judgement till I've seen it to be honest, although it more then likely will be removed as I'm a perfectionist and everything for me has to be 100% as it left the factory standard.

Getting a bit nervous about the weather now!

I'm meant to be going to collect the car on Saturday and am reading the forecast online saying that parts of Yorkshire are pretty back with snow!

There's nothing in Glasgow and nothing in Doncaster just yet so fingers crossed it'll be ok.

Gonna speak to Andy again tomorrow night and see what the situations like.
