I was supposed to be going last weekend but came home from holiday with a tummy bug so have had to claim the insurance on the tickets to move it to this weekend. They won't change it again, so if I can't go I'll loose around £100 in train tickets.

I've got a colleague of mine who is working in Leeds till 3 or 4 o'clock this afternoon and then travelling back to Glasgow afterwards so I'll as her what the weather is like when she gets home.

The local forecast for north-east England isn't good for the next 48 hours (I'm in Darlington). It might be worth thinking about crossing the Pennines down south and going up the west side, if that wasn't what you were already planning.

Thanks Rob.

A colleague of mine has just got home in Glasgow from Leeds and said she didn't have any problems with the weather so will play it by ear tomorrow and see what happens.

I had intended to take the A1 up to Scotch Corner, then the A66 to Penrith, then up the M6 and M74.

Best of luck. Keep checking the radio as the A66 is usually the first road closed in the region during inclement weather. If it is open then the rest of your journey is likely to be pretty good. I'm actually quite jealous of you as this was a car that piqued my interest. Do hope you are pleased with it.

When I had my Green XM TD in 1994, me and Mrs Dm went out for Sunday lunch. (only once mind. ;))...decided to go North so hit the A46 then A1. refuelled at Scotch Corner and carried onto the A66 and found a great pub serving a hearty lunch next the fire...

Then onto Barnard Castle and intended to take a look at High Force, but the snow was deep so couldn't even park. Got a bit sidetracked by it so then drove back home.

400 miles in an XM TD for Sunday lunch...Great...

There's a lovely pub on the A66 called the Foxhall Inn.

I seem to time it subconsciously so that whenever I pass it I'm starving!

The grub is brilliant and it's so reasonably priced too!

Well..... After the train journey from hell the car is now home...

3 trains broke down.... a 4 hour journey took us 10.5 hours on the train!

The car drove home without any issues and the roads were nice and clear all of the way!

We got home at 2.05am and I couldn't be arsed opening the garage and moving a car to get the XM inside. I woke up this morning to find it covered in snow!

The first night it's spent outside since 2003 and this happens to it:

Here's one of the C6 too:

Off topic I know.... But here's two random pictures I took too:
