Theres no rule that states it has to be an xm

Post by Dean » Sat Jan 22, 2011 10:50 pm

So here is the story of my Activa so far.......... :D

Purchased at the end of last summer with a few known faults, i intended to rescue this car from certain death and restore it to its former glory over the winter, the list of known faults on purchase were.

Seized turbo
Heater matrix leaking
leaking ARCS ram
Worn rear arcs bush.
The list turned out to include........
Leaking scuttle
Leaking sunroof
leaking door
badly adjusted ride height front and rear
collapsed cam belt tensioner
Failed ignition switch
fueling issues
badly fitted boost controller
gunky height correctors.
Worn rear droplink
Both strut tops failed

The turbo turned out to be an incorrectly fitted wastegate actuator and a lump of insulation or cloth in the turbo
The leaking ARCS ram turned out to be a leaking front strut, which is unusual and rather troublesome as its not the sort of bit kept by people, its also Activa specific, as is the rear droplink which means £££££££££££££££££ :( . Thankfully though due mainly to the generous nature of some FCF members some of these were resolved quickly and for beer money 8-)

I am still in need of a rear droplink though and at £80+vat i am hopefull of a second hand part!

The project is now nearing its end, the interior has been upgraded to leather and is back in after the complete strip of the interior, the gear shift has been shortened and all the little electrical gremlins have been sorted out, i am now focused on getting the last few hydraulic jobs done and come march she will be back on the road, hopefully then ironing out any remaining issues ready for the CXM meet which i shall be attending this year, with no XM :)

The Activa is a mighty car. I really admire it for what it can do, it is incredible how well these cars can handle. However, I'm soon going to part company with mine. I'm hopefully going to replace it with the complete opposite of Citroen motoring, a BX diesel automatic! No electronics, no turbos. But the Acvtiva isn't quite my kind of car. I'm built for comfort over speed.

Its good to see your car returning back to its proper glory Dean, and to be in enthusiast hands again. I always wanted to try and Activa. I have, and will probably regret moving on from mine.

If im honest its a bit shouty, i do like it but then i like the standard car too, the trouble is to put it back to original is a no no, its not going to be to everyones taste of course but she has ovoided the scrap yard and im happy about that.
The twin pipes sound nice too Paul 8-)

Will, the matrix had been leaking for some time and the car stunk, incredibly there was a dead mouse in the heater box and ive no idea how it got there because there's a grill on the air intake, then it had to go through the fan and was pushed up against the matrix, all dry and crispy :?

Robert, The question is where the hell did you find a Automatic nasp derv BX
And is it MK1 or two, mint or rough?
I am looking forward to giving the activa a good blast this summer, and i think i have the best place to enjoy one, lots of tight twisty roads and not far to go so the fuel economy (or lack therof) wont bother me.

Shes a series 2 Meteor.

The guy who I bought my old BX estate from has it, and I know hes a sucker for faster odd ball Citroens. He has a BX 4x4, so I thought he would be a good custodian for the Activa. I'm not entirely sure of its condtion, I haven't had a good hoke round the car, but from what I have seen, and heard of the car, it should be a good'un. I was at his house durning or spell of snow when I was re-registering the TCT Prestige, and a quick check of the common Bx rot spots in the door shuts revealed no rust. So I'm hopeful.

However, I learnt how to weld on a Bx :D  :D

I always liked the look of your Activa since I first saw the pictures - long live the modified Citroen - it's good to be different! :D
