Get it painted white then
I have blue paint here for the CX, and all the body panels that I need. All I have do to is save the money up and get the work done. All being well, I'll change its clutch this summer.

The Romana velour really is the best velour option on XMs, the velour is very rich, and with a longer pile length than usual it feels very luxurious.
The ninth picture looks identical to a picture you posted of your low mileage grey one a couple of years ago.
You're right! Fortunately you can see the white shell, to show I'm not cheating

Hi Robert

Very nice.

Strange how the mid pillars have lost the coloring, have never seen this happening to an XM -while the front door ones always discolor with age.

Evening Gents,

It has been a long time since I have updated this post!

TXI3273 is still going strong and is my daily ride at the moment and is my most reliable car! The C5 noise investigations continue at my local Citroen Specialist.

After a bit of light summer use at local car rallies, the car has performed very well on my 115 mile daily commute! But its very slow (compared to the C5 and most other traffic!) Plus I am very aware of it not having any safety equipment like ABS, EBS, Airbags etc etc...

I changed the front drop links earlier this week which has cured the annoying rattles up front (the car passed its MOT like this too!)

I have also hit a land mark mileage this week too :D Not many XM owners will have seen their XMs hit these mileages (first time round ;) ).

I am really enjoying driving the XM, its very sedate and relaxing, and its making me miss my old 2.5 Estate which was my last XM commuter before jumping ship for modern V6 power!

They really do look good in white. Very nice Robert.

So what is up with the C5? Thought your impressive bit of work would have sorted that noise out.

White is a very gorgeous colour for an XM...

Robert, I was going to ask how the XM stacked up against a modern and I think you've answered that.

So, are you going to ditch the modern stuff now and find another daily-driver XM?

It's doing 85 mph! Not very slow Robert, you only need those airbag and EPS gadgets when you go racing on Irish roads :) Remember: when EPS kicks in you were going too fast in any case :)
I had to stop my TD lately as fast as I could for cow on the road but it takes some distance I can tell you. Even or especially with the ABS. But, good to see you've left the C5 in a citroen specialist so now they can learn where those noises come from. And maybe redesign it's turbo or other parts :)

ps these turbo XM ships get faster over time and when you use them a lot!

Nah, the moderns are still better I think, especially given the amount of driving I do in a year. Lets face it, driving a XM or Xantia is putting off the inevitable. You will be driving C5s and C6s in 10 years time when they are in their late teens and early 20s.

At the moment the main suspect for the C5 noise is the chain tensioner that links the 2 cam shafts on each bank. I hope that this cures the noise, and normal service can be resumed. However I am enjoying better fuel economy and a bigger diesel tank in the XM! Don't start saying XMs are more economical! A 1.6 HDi C5 is economical! I just chose to drive a less economical model.

Ahh, so that's what the noise was then Robert... It was sounding quite niggly at CXM...

So Ok, in a few years we'll be driving something else so what do you recommend as a potential XM successor then?
