That's a terrible thing to consider doing John. The V6 XM is a natural for an autobox. If you get one, rebuild the 'box or come and see me...

Hi Paul

I have double checked and can confirm that the LHD V6-24v with manual box was available at least for the French market.
It is listed with its performance stats in the sept 1998 XM brochure that I have.
That brochure also lists the slower, slightly more sluggish V6-24v auto version.
This later engine produces slightly higher max torque than your earlier version.
Maximum speeds of the two manuals are identical which is interesting as the later car is slightly heavier.
It would be interesting if DerekW ever puts his spare engine (Pug 208hp) into his V6 XM.

Paul, you are just going to have to buy a series 2 24V manual from France and settle this debate, see if its as quick or quicker than the series 1 24V! :D

There is NO DEBATE! Im talking RHD UK Cars only here...

I know the XM Had manual box's on the 24v ESJ engine in europe, just like the PRV 12v, lots of manual ones in europe too...

So really, Im talking a manual car against an auto car..

Citroen state the difference as 3 kph in favor of the manual (233 - 230kph).
It is also 0.9 seconds faster over 400m (15.6 - 16.5) and 1.6 seconds faster over 1000m (28.4 - 30.0).
Interestingly the Mk2 TCT manual is faster than the late Mk2 V6 auto to 400m and equals it at 1000m.
To answer Roberts point assuming that 60mph directly converts to 100kph the Mk1 V6-24v manual beats the Mk 2 V6-24v by 0.3 seconds (7.5 - 7.8).

Best not to turn this into an actual trial before we get into chaining tow bar to tow bar a Mk1 and a Mk2 and have a tug of war to prove which rusts the most.
Now theres an idea for CXM, free rust checks on your CX.
