24v update

Post by MTXM » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:16 pm

Just a brief update on progress with my series one V624v since meeting various enthusiasts at the CXM/Xantia/GS/A rally in September. I mentioned there was a problem with the hydractive suspension, which I am pleased to report now seems to have resolved itself. On driving away the car went almost immediately into hard mode where it stuck, until parked up and restarted, but then generally reoccurred. As a temporary fix I disconnected the speed sensor at the bulkhead, which effectively put the suspension in permanent soft mode, obviously preferable for comfort, but rather wallowey on bends and with the 24v torque a bit like Concorde under acceleration! Another implication is that the onboard computer speed and fuel consumption no longer work. Out of curiosity I recently reconnected the sensor and the suspension now seems generally okay, if a little twitchy, although the stiffening up on cornering etc. is certainly there, with a subsequent return to soft mode. I am also travelling with a heavy tent in the boot at the moment that seems to help further loosen things up. We recently took another car to France on a 1350 mile round trip with five passengers, a full boot and large heavy roof box and the suspension has never felt better since!! I think the spell in soft mode might have helped 'free up the system', which was certainly necessary after fitting new spheres and a hydraflush. I also attach some recent photos including shots at two local rallies, which generated quite a bit of interest! With regards, Matthew T.

Had this car stood for a long time before being put back on the road by you Matthew? I suspect the standing doesn't do either the electrics or hydraulics any good.

I am sure you are right Will. The mileage is about 115k and the previous owner had the car for about 2 years and put less than 300 miles on the clock!! I also know that the car was sorned for a period earlier in its life. With regards, Matthew T.

A very nice XM Matthew, really fresh looking, a stunning S1.

A picture I took at the National last year:

I really enjoyed the run out in it that day, what a car, I didn't expect an XM to behave in an aggressive way, its very impressive 8-)

No, I didn't have a trip out in your 24v Paul, though I can see why your fond of it now 8-)

How many 24v Manual PRVs exist now?

We have worked out about 20 of them... 10 I could probably recall I know of, reserving 10 for another hidden bunch...
