S1 24V back on the road

Pleased to say the beast from Germany finally got to the MOT station today and it passed! Hallelujah! :D

Managed to clock up 80 miles - well I came home the long way officer. Loads of torque, power, likes the revs and very smooth gear changing for a manual I thought.

All seems good, apart from the speedo cable which snapped a couple of miles from home just to give me another little challenge! Now have to wait for the registration document to arrive and get some number plates!

Excellent news Marc and it would be really great to see some photos and/or to meet you both at a future rally. With regards, Matthew T.

Sounds good! :D Why not bring it along to the CX, XM and Xantia Rally in September - the best show of the year! ;)

Thanks chaps. Its taken me a long time, mostly because I rediscovered that my "winter" projects get done in the spring not in the winter due to the weather! I'll take some photos at some point soon and try to get to the XM rally this year.

Main priority now is to get it registered. Presently trying to fill in application form for import and it wants the engine number. I can't seem to find it on engine. Would anyone know whereabouts the engine number is on one of these engines?

Marc

Stick the VIN up and I should be able to get you the engine number, assuming it's the original one.

Sorry, the engine number is no longer available on Service Citroen.

I believe the engine number should be on the rear bank towards the timing chain end, not sure if it's in the Vee or viewed from underneath.

Have now had a good look on top and underneath with a torch, but not obvious to me where it is.

Did Citroen usually attach a little plate with it on, or stamp it onto the engine? I'm guessing the inlet manifold assembly wouldn't need to be removed to find it?

I've found Made in France in the V at flywheel end and a number in a well in the inlet manifold casting, covered by the flat plate bracket which supports the fuel supply inlet pipe near the timing chain end: it reads 473680RB with FD1 below and 90 above. Guess that might be it, or more likely the number of the manifold casting!

Any suggestions welcome.

Marc

Is the square flat section visible in this photo where the number is stamped. Some PSA engines do have the engine number on a plate riveted to the block.

Matthew might know, this is his engine.
