It's back!!! The SED is leak free both Oil ....and Aircon as it unexpectantly turned out. A ruddy stone hit the Condenser at some point and created a lovely hole. So i'm now much lighter in the wallet department!
But idle speed is now sorted, no harsh vibrations now. Hydraulics bled and brakes are much better and hopefully it rises quicker too. Apparently it does...see tomorrow. Fuel gauge now works.. a miracle... But for how long I ask 8-)
and a bonus, my RHS LCD display now tells the correct time and temp. Faults to sort out still...bulbs in the central display - will do tomorrow, and the speedo cable is loosing the will to live. It flickers all over the place and clicks a bit too. I think it's terminal. So if any one has any experience with how to get a new one, do let me know.

So now it needs a good wash and tidy up for the ICCCR.

Matthew, if your out there, I'll get the paint code number for you. Sorry I haven't done it quicker, but things got in the way.

Paint code is ETC. What I could make out from the painted letters behind the RHS headlight.

Well I had an interesting drive home from the CXM. Great rally by the way.
My little issue.... I had been noticing that my temp gauge had been getting a little high of late I thought it was because it is a little low on coolant. It wasn't getting to overheating high, just more than normal. Odd.

Anyway it was getting worse on route home, noticed it getting quite high, but then it would fall to normal. Then noticed the gearbox was not liking being in top and It just wasn't cruising like usual. Seemed low on power. But then it would be back to normal, cruise nicely and temp sitting rock solid where it should be. Gearbox changing smoothly as normal I might add!

Got onto the A40 with some roundabouts, and with the braking and being heavily loaded, the front LH brakes started to really squeal. But here's the strange thing...it wasn't all the time and I had no pulling to one side when braking. But it was continuing to squeal a little after releasing the brakes.
But close to home i was cruising normally and then the brakes started to really squeal without me applying them, also noticed the turbo gauge was higher too. Pulled over straight away, pumped the brakes and decided to drive on. Cleared, no squealing, temp down to normal, turbo gauge back to normal too.

So what has been happening is the front LH brake must be binding, or has a sticky caliper, reducing the power causing the Turbo to kick in to generate more power and then it getting hot and the gearbox not wanting to change up or cruise in top as it is not getting enough power for it to use top.

So am I right in thinking it is a sticky caliper / binding brakes? anyone shed any light on this it would be good to have a second opinion?
The brakes were all done about 5-6 months ago. Obviously they need looking at, but is there something in particular to look for maybe?

It will be either a sticky caliper, the handbrake self adjuster binding, the doseur valve sticking or the doeseur crank lever partially seized or not having free play.

My first guess would be the doseur crank arm binding. Remove the plastic scuttle trim to check.

Hi russ

It is not just the altered position of the Mk2 wing mirror that improves the field of view.
The Mk1 mirror has flat glass while the Mk2 has convex glass.

Hi russ

On the brake binding issue check the pips on the back of the front pads.
They must be fitted piston side.
They work the parking brake auto adjust.
Fit one pair the wrong way round and the brake starts to bind, takes a while to get bad though.
If both are the wrong way round both wheels will fairly quickly lock up badly with lots of nasty smoke.

My guess is one of the pips was wrongly fitted on the recent attention.
You need to check both sides as I think that the correctly piped side is the one that keeps over auto adjusting and binds up.
If it has gone on for a while one pad will be far more worn than the others and you need new pads.

I see. I thought that might be the case. They are quite different and S2 mirrors are far better.
