Re: New XM SED Owner
The FDV is the Flow Distribution Valve, which is mounted next to the regulator, which is what the green accumulator sphere screws onto.

Re: New XM SED Owner
Right. Got ya. Taken note and will remember that. Sounds annoying to replace however. Why do I get the feeling I might need a new specialist!

Re: New XM SED Owner
Yeah....Campbell has put me on to them too. I also believe there are some other chaps about our area which are good which Campbell has also suggested. But if I do need the FDV doing, which is increasingly looking likely, I will go to them.
Cheers Franklin.

Re: New XM SED Owner
Updating me Blog on the car. Must move it or start a new one in members cars.
I gave our local tyre fitters a treat today turning up in the XM. They were quite intrigued and asked about it.
Anyway, rear tyre now fixed. It was the seal round the rim rather than a puncture or valve problem. Not sure how it got so low, (blaming my nasty witch of a neighbor!) and ended up flat, but it did and it is now fixed and put back on for £20. Not bad.
If you are ever in Cheltenham and need new boots... Malvern Tyres is the place
to go.
Going to try and under seal the boot floor tomorrow whilst the spare is in the boot. It has been round the edges, and subframe mounts ect... but not under the spare. I want to get the carrier off and sort out that too.
I still think the FDV valve is playing up. Loads of hissing ect, But I want to check the filters first. LHM was replaced only a couple of months ago, the accumulator too. Do you have to de-pressurise the system first to do get the filters out of the LHM tank? Haynes says to do it.
Oh and the dash electrics were up to mischief again. The fuel gauge was telling me it was empty, when I had just filled it up. Anyway it fixed itself and now tells the correct level. Must be a sticky sender unit.
Also the autobox LCD readout kept flickering and showing part of the letters. Done this since I got it. Loose connections or dry solder joints. Must get that done. ABS light was on when I started it but has now gone off and stayed off. Fun and games as usual.
Otherwise I think that's it for now. Brakes work well, and the temp gauge is back to normal, so the hotter than normal readout was to do with the brakes binding.
Over and out!

Re: New XM SED Owner
You don't need to depressurize the hydraulics to take the LHM tank filters out, they aren't under pressure, however before running the engine you should slack the relief screw and run the engine for about 2 minutes to expel any air int eh suction pipe and pump.

Re: New XM SED Owner
Okay, thanks Will.
Admittedly the Haynes manual was on about taking the LHM tank out too. So wasn't shore if you needed to open the relief screw or not for just the filters.

Re: New XM SED Owner
A productive sort of afternoon I have had...Oiled my sills inside and will get some Bilt Hamber S-50 to really help protect them. I assume thats the one to use.
Then finally replaced my rear light unit that I bought from Matthew at CXM.
Before...
After...
More like it. Thanks Matthew!
