Well this is now sitting on my driveway after a first journey of exactly 100 miles back from South Yorks.

Initial feelings are good It goes very well and "seems" to be economical, but it is far too early to tell that yet. The overall condition of the body is very good, and it has been well polished by its previous owner Les prior to my collection. The service history is mainlt handwritten records of the work done in the original book - completed in different colours to show when it has gone back to the beginning and this is supported by a folder of invoices I haven't had time to look at yet. The Dex 2 was changed at the last (fairly recent) service and the cam belt is four years old and not very many miles about 12k I think without checking.

There are of course concerns and things to address, as you get with any new purchase, but these will have to wait a while as I am having an op on an arthitic finger tomorrow and there is no money until the Saab finds a new home

Most of the niggles are minor, like noisy wipers, poor headlights (of course) and a slightly temperamental central locking system, but my biggest concern is the lumpiness of the car at tickover when in D. This seems excessive to me and I wonder if there may be an engine mount on the way out? On the road it drives smoothly - and I love the spaciousness. I may even get to love the leather interior (as long as the air con keeps working!).

Yet Another Manderin colour XM.. Its a bit like the "Green Xantia" saga, where most were green!

Looks very tidy there Rob, I remember you saying you were due to pick one up!

Ill try and get my XM SED all done for next years CXM, mine, also in Manderin too! Ive got 11 months to do it .. should be long enough...

A good find from the looks of it! and being a K plate, an S1.5, meaning working hydractive, twin spoke steering wheel, possibly Bosch pump, and bolted Earth points...

Thanks for the positive comments, folks. I am quite pleased with it and hope to build a lasting relationship!

I too love the wheels, there doesn't seem to be anything else quite like them.

Unfortunately, there is no interest in the Saab as yet through Autotrader, I must have priced it too highly; they seem to have bottomed out since I bought it just a year ago. I think folks probably fear fuel consumption yet I have returned 33 mpg over the last 6000 miles according to the car's computer. I really need to shift it before the tax runs out at the end of the month, so we shall see.

Selling SAAB's is hard since they went bust.

That is a very nice SED there Rob (he sez through gritted teeth!!!) Love the colour, always have, but bodily wise it is very tidy. Better than mine. Well done.
Whats the RP number? Would be interested to see how far apart it is from mine. So far I have met my cars closest 'sister' which was made within weeks of each other. Registered within days of each other at the same Dealer too. You can see them in the CXM photos.

Bit slow in getting round to replying but the RP number is 5712.

One irritation that is getting under my skin a bit is the slow, noisy wiper action. I have replaced the rubbers and thoroughly cleaned the screen but that has made no difference. It is had the wiper motor replaced at some point in the past (relayively recently IIRC), any ideas? Not had this problem with previous XMs.

I still have the Saab sitting on the drive with more than a year's test and six months tax, so there is absolutely no money to spend on the XM at the moment which is frustrating. I'm even considering advertising the 2CV to raise some cash.
