Thanks Robert!
Well I have changed the wiring loom and motor over. But not before putting a new stainless steel wire from E-croft (£15) in it because the original one was frayed.
It was one of those days that everything needed doing twice but at least that is sorted again. Now on to the next problem.

Exhaust...noisy. So I thought well let's see where it is leaking just one month before the MOT of course. Strangely, it doesn't seem blow but it makes a rumbling noise from the cat area.

I know catalytic converters do rust and can fail, but could this be one of the symptoms? Can they fail internally like an exhaust box? I have to have a good look under the car first but the window regulator took me more time than anitcipated. Mainly due to a non connecting plug which had me taking off the door panel twice again but all good now.

The Cat honeycomb is coming loose in the casing. The risk is it could slide backwards and block the exit tube. One fix is to screw a short self tapper through the casing.

Thanks but I think I got if fixed for now, it wasn't the cat but the middle damper that I patched up.

Serviced the car prior to the National Car test next week. Can't find much wrong with this car again.

Whilst checking the camshaft pulley I did however notice cracks in the auxilary belt. That's easy to replace but I do wonder why this Gates belt, perishes quicker than it's predecessor of the same make (even similar numbers on it) that did more miles and shows no cracks whatsoever??? Very odd.
I don't really know how often one should change these belts so I'll have that done on top of the steering rack gaiters. I hope they will outlive the car :)

Thanks Robert. Don't tell anyone and keep this a secret :) but we never lock any of those cars at home :) Who wants an XM in Mayo and who, dares to challenge our guard dog). Besides, one of the two usually sleeps indoors.
