Thank goodness it was the Kia and not the XM Jaap...

Indeed. I once knew of a high-mileage Ford Fiesta that used a drop of oil. Despite telling the owner to check and top up regularly he never did. Then he complained of the oil light coming on when going round corners..

One day the light came on all the time. I found the sump nearly dry and after an oil change (no need to drain  ) the sound of a big end knock could be heard.

I had to work hard to open the bonnet because the release had rusted up due to lack of use

The car did perhaps another 200 miles before a big end seized and it threw a conrod through the side of the block.

I still have the remains of the piston and conrod..

And all for the want of just a bit of regular maintenance :(

Oh no Jaap....and it still surprises me how these people think they don't have to maintain a car.

Some neighbours, famous for not really looking after their cars...(once had a beige BX estate)... Took their Fiat tipo up the M5 with no oil in it!
you can guess the result.

7 year warranty and driving with brake pads totally gone, metal to metal. She had this before and did have it serviced by the book and at considerable expense, so I feel bad for her. Incipiently, Kia is sold by the Citroen dealer...which must be the worst if all the stories she told me are true :(

I don't know Kia's small print, the car isn't 7 yrs old yet and is just under 100.000 KM. (guarantee is 7 years OR only 100.000 km. according to her) Only 100K, I've done over 70K in less than 2 years in the XM...

But don't know if too little oil will cause water temp. to go sky high. She thought the water temp. was still OK when oil warning came on. She's non mechenical my colleague but not stupid. I don't blame her for not checking the oil level cause she went out of her way to get the car service regularly.

Ha, XM failure at last! :)

Left front indicator bulb perished.

I know, I'm Dutch (DUTCH: Don’t Understand The Concept Here - The Dutch are so open-minded that their brains fall out)

Not much of a mechanic, I don't understand the XM manual about how to change the bulb :)

Gonna have another go at it now!

 very good Jaap. Duct tape over the ears will hopefully prevent escaping brains. :D

Well, that is a serious and very troublesome job you have there to sort out. I hope you can manage it!!!

I picked up somewhere, that there are only 3 manufacturers of brake discs. I never knew 'Bosch' was one of them, but never heard of 'Bolk' either.
Anyone that already knows what I don't know...does it matter which one to go for. To be honest I cannot remember the brands of discs I bought for the xantia in the past, just from the shelf of my local car parts supplier.

I too was surprised to see Bosch does discs Jaap... Not much they don't do is there?

They seem OK and are currently still able to supply 288mm front discs for the 2.5TD and ES9 V6... Chris570 currently has a set of them on his V6 replacing an allegedly genuine Citroen set that warped early in their life. The Bosch ones are happily not warped.

Never heard of Bolk I must confess but then the after-market seems to contain a large number of brands for lots of things.

Must be more than three makers of discs unless they get re-branded by others... Which wouldn't surprise me. Allegedly there are only two or three makers of LCD screens in the world...
