Well.. the Sd from the lakes finally arrived tonight.. ok it was dark when it got here but what i could see of in the dark there's a bit to do..

The ok bits.. she starts perfectly the turbo sounds good.
Bosch pump of course..
decent dip stick
bonnet lamp still works.
strut tops are ok.. surface rust on the base plates and cracks in the rubber but actually still very useable.
rear tyres are very good
only 106 k and a fair few mots to back it up.
factory no Abs on this Sd. was always an option on D and Sd models and standard on sed
Good pair of side lights

the bad..

exhaust shot basically
no dipped beam (relay i know)
glove box release handle broke and gas strut dead
drivers door card not fitted
spheres all flat
front tyres shot
clutch heavy and biting at top
Rear passenger quarter glass been smashed. shattered with a small hole in it.. Grrrrr these are impossible to change. not sure what Im gonna do with that.
rear drivers side window stuck open
rear centre lens with reversing lights cracked.. also cracked a bit of the boot lid..
a usual dent on the near side panel

ive not seen it in day light so need a closer look which i shall do Saturday.

so overall.. not decided what to do. looks like the car really could do with a clutch.. could make a sell on or a project. what puts me off is the lack of Abs though that's one less thing to play up at mot time..

there IS a tow bar.

Oh and... the Cill appear to feel quite solid too from what i could tell... ill get a heavy scanner on them Saturday.
if i can get everything done easily enough i may mot this one for myself.. ive got everything i think.. Depends what the front disks are like i realise she has Sat for five months so there's no surprise that they were a bit crap...

the parking brake was very stiff too.. Im assuming the cables be a bit seized...

Ooooooooooooooooooo look at that.. A H reg Sed... A J reg base D... and a K reg mid range Sd.. all three diesel models....

Pleased it's finally with you Paul :D I agree Jaap, it does sound a good amount of work...

We need pictures and lots of them ;)

I'm sure John will come up with some ideas for the rear quarter window but as I understand it they're actually structural...

Not having ABS is a definite bonus in my book...

Well done Paul and it does sound like you have your work cut out there! I had a rear door glass replaced and the main problem is removing and refitting the outer trim, which very easily buckles. I am sure we all look forward to hearing more! With regards, Matthew T.

This sounds great Paul, and no ABS to worry about is a total bonus in my book. We need pics!
I'm sure when it is completed it will be a great car. Worth having for yourself.

Now this NOT a strong hint, but if I were to add to my fleet of one, it would have to be a manual. Autos are great...but a manual would be better round town. Not an admission....just want best of both worlds! Greedy!

But one thing is for sure....save it :D

no ABS! Now you just have to worry not hitting the car in front of you :))
A car so big and heavy should have ABS all the time.

The simpler the better as far as I'm concerned Paul. Does it have the dual zone heating like the SX?

These rear quarter windows are available from Citroen (well they were last year). I would be going down that route rather than trying to recover one from a scrap car.

I've read these articles in the motoring press about people driving more aggressively or should I say assertively, because they stake their lives on the ABS. I learned to drive before the age of ABS and love having the extra back-up, but don't allow the cutting edge technology to dictate my driving style. Safety starts with the driver, not the add-on ECUs. No offense.
