Design flaw there - putting a metal clip over a metal brake pipe. A dirt & moisture trap leading to rust -

The fun and games continue today..

A rear brake pipe decided to leak so it needed changing.. no problem quick job..

Image

Back box off first to gain room..

Then the rear arm covers off

Image

Ahhhhhh thats better .. a bit more room..

So i wiggled the pipe out and got another in .. then come bleed time there was a huge puddle at the front... front wheel off but by now that annoyed no further pics.. the flexi pipe was routed incorrectly and the front wheel has rubbed through and cut it open..
So after that decided to check the main pipes on the passenger side that go up onto the subframe.. couple of pipes needed a rub down and some under seal on them...

Heres the cause of the original leak.. though not as bad as the other side..

Image

All sorted now and better brakes after a bleed all round..

Maybe, it has only lasted 23 years.
Good work there Paul, shame about the flex going too.

Small update... mot'd 31st of march.... at 118,579 .. now about to 121,000 miles

Nothing else serious after the rotton brake pipe!! MPG risen 43mpg avereage at 70mph as and when..

To do... nearside wheel bearing on the mechanical side of things.. i have to say after dooing the rear brake pipe and bleeding it all up properly these are the most impressive lhm brakes ive experianced after the Xantia HDi 110 Bosch brakes (also on v6 xantias) .. well amazing. Better then the xm 24v brakes at the moment. But she needs lots attention looming..

Anyway.. other things i need to do .. replace glove box catch. Ive got a working strut. . Get that sorted.
LHD illumination is a but squewif .. cant read it very well.. not going it even bother opening it ive got about 20 to choose from that work!
And to make perfect re install the inner screen rear hinge's and put the screen back in.

Ohh i also need to put a new thermostat in. The one in it is stuck open slightly.. never gets hotter then 60 deg and its not the guage because towing or hill climbs the needle does go up.

Here she is earning her keep with my last parts xantia on the move..

Image

Just one whole xantia left now.. my L reg non air bag anti sinker left.

I actually made the effort to bleed the abs block on my car when it was put back on the road, John has been telling us to do it for years, I've been ignoring him partly because bleeding my brakes without removing the wheels makes me feel a bit smug and having to jack the car and remove a wheel ruins that but mainly because I wrongly thought a good full on brake test from 70 or so would work the air out. I was wrong, the brakes are fantastic now, the two bleed points are internal return types, exactly the same as the pressure reg bleed, air was heard exiting the valve block. No more smug feeling for me..........thanks John.

Looking good though Paul, time to stop heaping the miles on and sell it isn't it? Or is it staying now?
