Will will be jealous of that Jim. Must be rare not to have a sunroof.
Cut me out the roof panel and we can swap...

I shall be picking up the new XM in the morning...

I really am excited...

Then, after a good check over I plan to take a run down to see dad in her on Sunday...

That must be a 1998 car to not have sunroof. I think the later V6 exclusive are a very refined car.

First registered 28th August 1997 so I guess it makes it a 1998 MY car then...

My experience of them - I've travelled a considerable distance as a passenger in one in the past - is that they are very refined...

Shamefully, the series two car as a whole is a far more refined car then the series one!

A pity really.. My mates 2.1 TD auto exclusive is soo much more quieter then any of my 2.1 Diesels. And they are the same setup, mechanical Bosch engine.

The S2 2.1 td are very quiet and vibration at idle free..

This then would make an already quiet V6 engine virtually silent. Im wanting to actually try some S2 2.1 TD engine mounts on one of my 2.1 TD cars and see if theres a mounting improovment between them or just more bulkhead sound insulation...

Paul, you really do seem to dislike the S2. Maybe once I've driven one a bit I'll be able to appreciate why...

Mind you, I much prefer the S1 Xantia as you well know but I can live quite happily with an S2 Xantia as I do indeed for my daily driver... I guess it's the same for you with the XM... I think that conversely to the XM that the S1 Xantia is more refined and comfy than the S2..

I'll be interested to compare and contrast. I think I've driven an S1 often enough to appreciate any significant differences now... I shall report back...

the big pity is of course that the ES9 V6 was never available as an S1... Now if it was that would be brilliant :D

Theres a couple of originalities that were lost on the S2 to give way for the improvments..

The rear spoiler was lost to a stupid "Lip" on the boot.
The S2 dash is a bit too plasitcy for me, theres a lot of smooth bare plastic around the colum.. shame, it looks cheap.
The door mirrors, though an improvment, lost the originalilty. An XM isn't one without a quirk, the door mirror cut off a little is one of them... :D
I would say improved earths, BUT S1.5 cars had these, so that doesn;t count.

Yes, all good points and I can't disagree about some nice quirks being lost although it retains enough of them...

The S2 dash appears Xantia inspired and falls somewhere between the S1 and S2 Xantias in design. I'm so used to a Xantia dash now they're the norm so in front of an S2 XM dash I feel very at home...

that was the idea.. Remember, the XM was introduced in BX years..

The S2 was bought in line with the Xantia and tried to look a little like it..

And, with all the Xantias Ive had, im tired of the dash, the XM IS a different car to the Xantia... VERY different, so the dash needs to be.

I find the S1 Dash is much more spacious and Airy.. ALSO an S1 or 1.5 car can have what a Citroen really should have.. which an S2 cant, Single spoke steering wheel!!
