The state of the head was always the worry but, at least visually, it seems to be okay. That's the main reason it's gone for testing. Should know more middle of next week.

The crank is rock solid and it wouldn't surprise me if you're correct about the spun bearing. The block is no more than scrap.

The clutch plate is contaminated with oil and not worth keeping. Even though the 'new' engine has a relatively new clutch in it, for the sake of £100 or so, I'm tempted to buy a brand new clutch to store away just in case.

Like buses both the head and the hubs come back at the same time. The head is in excellent condition and has been skimmed, the hubs have been vapour blasted, galvanised and primed with new bearings and ball joints fitted. I do need new seals for the cylinders as they are brittle and dry.

Fancy the head not getting affected. So.. Replacement bottom end.. New head.. Connect it all back up and she's on her way again..

I had a spare 10 minutes yesterday so put the engine back together.

All new gaskets, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, bolts etc, turns very smoothly on the crank with good pressure. Still needs starter motor, plugs, oil filter, original sump and driveshaft but getting there - slowly!

Engine's back in with the starter motor and regulator coupled up. The connectors to the regulator aren't good with the nut parts on their last legs. Really could do with replacing them at some point in the near future. The wiring to one of the connectors behind the head has snapped as it's so thin and fragile. Going to be fun figuring out where the rats tails commonly known as the electrics goes.

Replacing the piping connectors means replacing the pipes, unless there is enough slack in the pipes to cut the flare off and you have the facility to make a new one after replacing the flare nut.

For high temperature areas remake the loom using PTFE insulated wire and fibreglass sheath, for regular temperatures PVC insulation will do.
