R267PGF 2.0TCT - MOT Pass!

Post by beko1987 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 10:06 pm

Well, after an early start we met up with Campbell at lunchtime, and departed just after 2. I had a lovely waft home, I wasn't expecting it to be so lovely! Fast too!

Breakfast at a lovely transport cafe!

Didn't take us long to stumble upon Campbell!

Image

After a nice cup of tea and a chat, we swapped money for keys, and I kangaroo'd my first auto down the road! It was great, it doesn't feel massive when you drive it, the cloth seats are lovely, the power is lovely and it's a nice driving position!

100 miles wafted past, with only a few minor niggles noticed:

When flooring it (really flooring it), the box seems to struggle changing up to 4th from 3rd. It bangs every few seconds. This can be avoided by easing off until it slips into a higher gear then flooring it in that gear, it's fine. Any ideas what the cause of that could be?

Wheel wobble that makes it wobble more than a fat person at a jelly party at 70-85mph (I found a private road on the way home...). Gonna swing past my favourite tyre shop on Monday and sort that.

It was a bit filthy, and since I made good time getting home, I washed her!

Little bit of oil. Looks old though, so prob nothing to worry about. Will clean it all off and see if it re-appears

Image

Coolant looks a little peaky...

Why are there two washer reservoirs? The washer jets don't work either, but not investigated it too much. Which fuse should I be looking at first?

Anyway, bonnet closed it was time for snowfoam!

Image

Wheels sprayed with Autosmart Smart Wheels

Image

Front wheels had a fair bit of iron contamination

Went round with some all purpose cleaner and a variety of brushes and cleaned the trim lines, gaps, plastics and seals. She was the rinsed and washed using the two bucket method and a heavy-duty shampoo. It was raining heavily by now

Image

Wheels just rinsed. Need going over again with brushes and normal wheel cleaner but not bad!

She needs a damn good clay and polish, but the paintwork is immaculate! I need to take the dash out one day to fix a few bulbs, the radio needs changing, the fluids need changing and the cleaning needs to continue but I am smitten!

Anyone got a Lexia near High Wycombe? :)

The two washer bottles are for windows in the n/s and headlamp washers o/s.

The gearbox might be the governor seals.

She's scrubbed up a perfect treat!!!

Coolant is worrying. Never seen a TCT quite so full of mayo as that although generally the engine is bombproof and certainly not known for letting head gaskets go without very good reason. Hopefully a good flush and a change of coolant will prove all worries groundless.

I reckon when the head was changed the coolant was just topped up, the temp certainly stayed rock steady all the way home, and the heating wasn't on. Cam - that's my first port if call too re the email light. It wants to change up, but not at very high revs. I rarely go that fast so its not a show stopped by any means.

Got my daughters christening today, so the xm has turned into a handy shed!

That's not mayonaise in that coolant system, just rust.
